Am I Oriented Yet?

Well, two days into orientation...

Yesterday was rather dull, really. There was a lot that someone who wasn't new to Bloomington really really didn't need to sit through. I was surprised to discover that there were only 18 new graduate students. This makes me think that the slots are rather competitive, which I'd sort of figured they weren't, which makes me happy. I wonder how many applicants there were? There was one other MLS/MA dual degree, and a lot of folks who already had their masters degrees. All in all, I felt young and a little out of place.

Today there was a breakfast with the History Graduate Student Association (HGSA). It was rather nice, though I'm always socially awkward at meet and greets, I didn't do too terribly. Then we broke up into departments and went to lunch. There's only one other new student who is studying Asia; he's an international student from China. We were met by two older students (who were also born in Asia...) and we went to Shanti for lunch. They were all very nice, and it was a pretty pleasant meal over all. Then I went to meet with my advisor, but he was a no show (grumble grumble) so I got what I needed set up for registration and headed home.

Other than that, I ran some errands, bought some book binding supplies at Pygmalion, and that's about it. All in all, a dull few days. Though I'm still in the Changeling afterglow, which is amusing to me. ;) Tomorrow there's nothing, Thursday there's some meet and greet thing, Friday night there's a dinner I'm not going to, and that's about it.

Speaking of Friday! [livejournal.com profile] schenker28 and I are planning to go to "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)" at the Brown County Playhouse. It's in Nashville, Indiana, and the tickets are $20 each. Let me know if you are interested by commenting or calling me (812 327 5880)
