Hopefully, Apartment!
Jun. 20th, 2007 09:17 pmAfter several failed attempts, I think I've managed to peg me down an apartment in Tokyo. It's no where near the one I really wanted - it's pretty much in the exact opposite direction, in fact, fairly Southwest instead of Northeast. I'm a bit disappointed - it's not nearly as interesting a neighborhood - but whatever, I need a place to live more than I need an interesting location. :) And it's still near a Book Off, so no harm no foul, right? :) Now I'm just trying to kill time until the paperwork arrives in my e-mail. Filling out e-mail requests appears to have achieved nothing, I had to call them to sort things out, a little tough cause of the accent of the folks on the other end of the line, but we managed. :)
Anyway, it's this one, it's a 180 square foot apartment (number 202)which will cost $850 per month, including all utilities and net access. It's available pretty much the day arrive, too, which is nice - I can move right in and not worry about a hotel, which'll save me a bundle of money over both my first and second choices (one of which I was going to have to pay for ALL of August, the other of which wasn't going to be available until almost a week after I got there). The downside is it's far. It's far from EVERYTHING. It's a four mile walk to Shibuya, a little farther to Shinjuku, and about twice that far to Tokyo...even more to Ueno and Akihabara. It's not as close to a train station, either, it's 20 minutes by BUS to the Yamanote and Tokyu lines, and the train line it IS close to doesn't really go any where useful at all, except to Shibuya - the train it has is pretty much a small bridge between other, more important train lines, which means I'm looking at two trains to get pretty much anywhere worth going. Yay commute times! :)
grumblegrumble
On the plus side, it's nicer than either of those other two apartments by a fair margin, and it'll be all mine. Heck, this one even has a closet, makes ya feel special ya know? :) I mean, neither of the other ones had closets. :)
Now, if only I could figure out why the paper work is taking so long. It's not actually mine until I put 30000 yen (about $250) down on it. And I was being sent (supposedly) the stuff to do that by the nice guy on the phone who was having trouble figuring out how to spell my first name (C-L ...terrible way to start a name when trying to explain things to someone who speaks Japanese, which has neither of those letters. ;) Not that the man was speaking Japanese, he was speaking English, but still...)
I'm babbling. I think I'm a little nervous. So I'm gonna shut up and look at what's going to be near my new apartment. Other than Book Off, that is. :) As this map clearly shows, there are Book Off's in basically every direction from my apartment - I don't know the apartment's exact location, but it's less than a 7 minute walk to what the map is currently centered on, so it has got to be close to ONE of those. :) There's apparently also a rather large park about a mile away, which has an art museum in it, an architectural museum near by which is in a smaller but closer park, a bunch of Shinto shrines, another art museum, a library, a hospital, a garbage incineration plant, a girls high school, the National Institute of Health Sciences, a Buddhist temple, a very large police station, two more hospitals, another rather small park, a university..."Komazawa Olympic Park," which might be interesting...That's everything that looks interesting that's labeled on the map I have.
Stupid e-mail needs to arrive so I can go the hell to bed, grrr. :) Anyway, I'll stop now.
Edit: I had the e-mail when I got up this morning...the wrong e-mail. Someone elses request. For an apartment I like better than the one I asked for. So I said that one WAS available (it's not listed as such on the webpage) I would take it, but if not I'd stick with the one I already asked for. Then I gave them my personal info for the FOURTH time, and hopefully they'll finally send me the link for access to the pay website...tonight, when they open again. :) Sigh...
And ain't THAT my luck...there appear to be not 1 but at least THREE that weren't available when I looked YESTERDAY that I would be interested in looking at. AAAAAAARGH. I guess I'll be calling Japan AGAIN tonight. This is gonna start getting expensive, I fear...
Okay, no, none of them have a location that's actually at all superior to what I'm currently going for. Except the one that I got the e-mail about. That's SOMETHING at least.
