Well, I'm sitting in New Hampshire. It's been snowing since last night, and I think it's sleeting now, though it's kind of hard to tell. I'm effectively snowed in, which is okay I guess, except that it keeps me from going to the hospital.

We got my grandfather - er, I got my grandfather - home alright on Monday, and we set up a doctors appointment for yesterday. He'd been feeling better, but on Monday he started to feel sicker, and yesterday he felt awful. We almost didn't get him to an 11 AM doctors appointment on time - incredible, and indicative, considering that this is a man who normally is up and about starting at 6 AM. He fell out of bed again, too, at 5:45 AM, and it took almost a half hour to get him safely back in to bed. I didn't go to sleep again after that, so "...and I was exhausted" can safely be added to the end of every sentence of this account. Anyway, we went to the doctor, I took her aside and told her the things that the family had suggested I tell her about his condition that we didn't think he'd share, and she told me that he shouldn't be driving or living alone. So that's one situation - he lives by himself in a place where one must drive to get around. However, she came in, checked his breathing, and promptly reported that he had pneumonia and had to go to the hospital. An emergency vehicle was called, he was moved to Dartmouth Hitchcock, and he's still there - even if he had been able to come home in 24 hours, which was a possibility, it's not even vaguely safe to drive today. I'd be terrified for him, except that all the doctors tell me, both in front of him and behind his back, that he'll be okay, so that's something. Yesterday morning, after we got him back in to bed, I was afraid he would die before we went to the doctor, his breathing was so rattly and his body so weak. I spoke to him this morning, though, and he sounded pretty good and said he was feeling much better, which is great. For those who don't know me as well, of my four grand parents, one died before I was born and two others lived in California and I was never close to them (both are now dead) so this is the only grandparent that I really had. When the doctor said it was pneumonia, I was really freaked, but now I'm pretty hopeful.

Meanwhile, the wheels of family planning are taking the information that I forward and working hard but I don't yet know what the results will be. I just hang out in a huge house on a hill by myself in the snow. It's creepy here and I can't say I love it; I'm glad Jonie is with me or I'd be totally freaked. Otherwise, though, I'm fine, and I'll be working alllllll morning.

In other news, yep, I still hate dial up even after all these years. :) Just repeat "it's better than no internet connection, it's better than no internet connection..."

Wow, you're having one hell of a week. Or is it 2 now? I can't keep track. I'm sorry your grandpa is sick and you're stuck in the snow. I hope he continues to improve and that your family works out a good plan. This stuff is never easy. *hugs*

i hope your grandfather gets better quickly and in the mean time, take jonie outside and have a (one sided) snowball fight. it will get your mind off of things for a few minutes plus the confused look on their faces is priceless as they try to find the snowball in the snow.

*huggles*

Been there, apart from the snowed in part, so I know how hard this can be. My sympathies.

*hugs* I hope your grandfather gets better soon. I've just come down with pneumonia as well, and I know how miserable the coughing is. I'm sure with proper care he'll be back on his feet soon.
