So the reason I packed so early was because of a major work assignment which is due tomorrow. However, we've been in limbo - the city hasn't gotten us the data we need - test scores on science for 4th and 8th grade students of participating teachers in a program.

I just received a file containing the data for 53,070 students (many not in our program). I have to parse it and analyze it by tomorrow morning.

I'm too numb to be overwhelmed.

Egads. No chance of extending the deadline? Wishing you lots of luck.

The deadline has already been pushed back repeatedly - it was originally 8/31! The hold up isn't our fault, though, it's because of the ridiculous confidentiality rules in the NYCDOE.

Yeah - but the cost was the quality of my work. With more time, I could have done so much more. Technically, what I as supposed to do was impossible with the amount of time I ended up having. Literally impossible.

Thanks! I managed to finish early enough to get sleep. Which is good, since I'm moving today...

In this instance, not the clients fault, actually. She's done everything she can and then some (she's a total workaholic, very competent). Indeed, I have the tragic sense that on an individual level, no one person was to blame for this mess - everyone seems to have been doing the best they could in the constraints of a busted-ass system. And as a result, I got the data I needed at 5:15 PM the day before the (already extended) due date even though they literally had months of warning.

Okay, maybe someone is to blame. Frackin' New York City Department of Education.

I was wondering how the grant writing business was going with the economy tanking. Hope all is well.

Not my best work...but not my worst...Now there's nothin' to it but see if the State accepts our data.

Relatively well, for now - but the future is rather indefinite and scary.
