MNC didn't give me a huge amount of trouble -- mostly because the necessary first step for the novel was to rip out the arc-plot of the game (the stuff that ran Shattering->present). Which was kind of like ripping out the spine of the narrative. So the events I wanted to keep had to be significantly retooled no matter what. Lune's early conversation with Tiresias, for example, went into the story because I needed something to carry the narrative burden of his death. In the game, when he broke his Ban and died, it was an important moment because that was when they realized he was the member of the Merriman family who was supposed to be helping them; but without 650 years of Merrimans to create significance, his identity had to be important for other reasons. Etc. I also wasn't using the PCs as protagonists, which was another big foundational change.
But I do have another project that might be relevant to this discussion, that I'd be willing to talk privately. Ring me up on Skype at some point.
