I shouldn't really be doing this...
Mar. 6th, 2006 03:58 pmThought I'd take the time to try to write a quick update on my weekend, which will in all likelihood be longer than it aughta be.
Friday night was the Harry Potter interlude. I was a little saddened by a low turn out (
mistresssin, is 12 hours of driving too much to ask? I mean seriously, shame on you for not being at the game... ;) ) and I was freaked out about running when it was first starting, but over all I think things went fairly well. And
sapphohestia made my night...one of the traps in the part she was doing was of my creation, and when conceiving the trap I had turned to
buzzermccain and said that we need a trap with something shiny, explaining further that if players saw something shiny lying around they would try to pick it up...and then something would happen (in this instance, a pit trap).
buzzermccain had concurred that this was a nice simple trap and wrote down "something shiny" trap in her notes. At the game, the players encountered this trap, checked to see if any of them had noticed it, and when some of them did,
buzzermccain told them that they observed something glittering on the ground. They all stared for a moment, and then little Fred said, "Look, something shiny!" It was all I could do not to break out in ridiculous quantities of laughter. So thank you,
sapphohestia. I know I already told you this in person, but it made me so happy that I felt the need to share with the world. (and yes, someone fell into the pit trap, which also made me happy - sure enough, PC's can't resist random shiny things lying around in dungeons...)
On Saturday I got introduced to the Midnight setting, which looks fascinating, and made characters and such...I know I shouldn't have said yes to another game, but...but...well, I guess I don't have a good excuse. :) Anyway, I've never played in a group with both good and evil characters, might be interesting...and I've only personally played CN once before, but I think I can pull it off. Also my first stint using an NPC class (I'm a beggar, hehehe)...not sure if even I can handle being that pathetic - I mean, purposefully crippling characters is one thing, but also having a crappy ass class? I think it'll be okay (95% certain) but there is that small part my ego (the part that gets a kick out of gaming - most of my ego is more occupied with my grades and the like) crying in the background that if I trample on it too much even it will get fed up and demand the opportunity to be not sucky. ;) Then, that evening, I enjoyed the unique novelty of not really having anything so pressing that I had to do it immediately, and so I sat and read a book just because I felt like it. It was sooo niiiice.
Sunday morning went out for brunch at Le Petit Cafe with a few folk. They have an interesting thing, you give them 9.25 and they bring out a whole bunch of courses. The food was alright, but they made my day because they had sourdough, delicious, warm, slightly toasted sourdough, and I was oh so happy and had much more if it than I really should have. It's so hard to find good sourdough, and I love sourdough so very much! Hung out, putzed around, then watched the Oscars. Gazed in horror at the moth eaten burlap sack, debated sequins and lapels, and generally enjoyed being snarky (and not snarky) about peoples outfits. Laughed out loud repeatedly thanks to Jon Stewart. Pretty much the funniest Oscar's in recent memory, even if Reese Witherspoon, and a few others, just wouldn't fricken stop talking. There are a few of those every year really, but I think this year there were actually fewer babblers than in some other years. Though this year continued the trend of "agonizingly painful musical numbers" that has been going on since since Howard Ashman died. (thank god for IMDB, I am terrible at remembering peoples names, and it enables to figure out who "that guy who used to do lyrics at Disney but died" is, and therefore not sound like a complete retard... ;) ) (okay, maybe it hasn't been universal suckitude, but generally speaking...)...probably my favorite moment was the sheer delight exuded by those who made Crash when they heard they'd won...it was so *genuine*.
As expected, I wrote too much. ;) There is work to do! And game to run tonight! :)
