Interlude, Airlines, and more!
Mar. 11th, 2006 11:21 pmWell, the plane didn't explode, which is always a good start for the day. Not that I really expected that it would, planes don't bother me, but still, I'm better that there was no exploding. That said, I'm sleepy (4 hours of sleep, here's to gaming til 4AM, woot!) so if I'm a bit rambling, I'm sorry.
First, before a cut, I wanted to mention (since I neglected to ask most people in person) that if anyone has any requests for things from New York City, they should let me know. I will already be doing my best to aquire drost cocoa (my mom says she knows where to get it!) for
buzzermccain and gaudy jewelry (also doable, believe me) for
tooth_and_claw...if anyone else has any requests (even just post cards or whatever, I don't know what the kids want these days...back in my day...wait...nevermind) just post them in a comment or e-mail me or something, and I'll certainly try (please, Manhattan only, I won't be in any of the other burroughs...)
Anyway, onto some rambling, long rant-type things...
Last night was the interlude. It was totally spiffy. First, thanks to
sapphohestia - not only did she do an awesome job with the monkeys, putting together a quest that was fun, interesting, and (and this blows my mind, truly) which ended right on time without feeling hurried, she also honored her promise to put in a "something shiny" trap. Even better, I had the honor of being the PC to fall for this trap, for I failed two Will chops and was therefore drawn to the shiny, shiny rock that lay inexplicably on the ground of the corridor in the space ship I was in, and I touched it...and got sucked into a worm hole (worms every where, I tell you)...fortuantely, it turned out that really all they wanted was for there rock to be placed into a dark corner some place, instead of out in the open where people would just touch it and be annoying and all that, and with Amelie's help there dream was accomplished, and everyone was happy. Other than that, there was the awesomeness that was the great Captain Dr. Fandango - I was able to make up for the fact that I didn't really encounter the Sexy or the Evil at the Knocker game last summer by spending some real quality time having Petros convince me not to beat Fandango's head in if he talked about Amelie touching his control stick one more time...(all IC, of course, all IC)...thanks to all the players, thanks to the ST, thanks to the NPC's, everyone was awesome.
Sadly, I missed the reception for Nadja and the Count (this bothers me only because Kathryn really would have tried to go - I think I'm just going to have to go with some sort of excuse, like, "something came up" or "wait, that was today? oh my, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it won't happen again" or the ooc "I was there but I was very very quiet - hunting wabbits...rabbits...or something.")
Anyway, after the game, headed over to Denny's with people. There was much gadgeteer plotting, and I got to say something truly evil - comments were made regarding the size of Lexxander Lugnut's tool versus Dino's, and I whispered to Kaye that I knew whose was bigger...I felt like such a naughty boggan, but there was just no resisting saying that... However, it got late, and people headed out, and so ICly stuff moved on to enjoying abundant cuteness with Dino thanks to the interventions of Kaye ("So Dino," says Kaye, "you do know that Kathryn's birthday is March 1st, right?" - my secret is out, ohnoes!). Then, to my fantastic happiness ICly, Dino actually approached Kathryn, and actually asked her on a date! Kaye, of course, stepped in to be evil (the good evil) and make sure that things went well...or as well as they could with given the participants, and all in all it was a great, great scene. There was dancing, food, deep conversation, and the answer to the all important question (in Kathryn's mind, anyway...), "Do you just want me to leave you alone?" (no! no! he wants me around! yay!) So yes, huge thank yous to
feyangel and
kniedzw! Great scene!! Sorry to write this much! I wouldn't have if I wasn't so tired! :)
Well, first, sorry to
feyangel and
deadmanwade for my being all stressed about getting to the airport on time. As it turns out, this was a non-issue, my flight left an hour late, but I know was being spazzy, so sorry!! Anyway, I had all these deep thoughts while I was on the plane, and I was like, "I should write about this stuff in my LJ," but I've since forgotten most of it, so here is some general stuff:
-Apparently, knitting needles and crochet hooks are both far too dangerous to be allowed on planes. However, the scissors that I forgot to move over to my check-in bags, heavy duty 4 inch blade craft scissors, are perfectly safe and could in no way be used to harm people (but, if they were 4.00000001 then they'd be over the limit, can't have that) and are therefore safe for airline use.
-Ohio is really, really flat.
-Did I mention Ohio is flat?
-Pretty cloudly most of the trip, though it was clear over Ohio (which is flat) - I love looking out the window on airplanes, and we got the whole spectrum this trip - there were the parts where the clouds below looked like unworked cotton or wool bleached beautifully white, where I could just reach out and start spinning it into something unbelievable...there were the parts where nothing was between us and the ground but air, and the world spread out in shades of brown, green and blue for as far as the eye could see...there were the parts where the clouds below were an even, undifferentiated sea of white and the sky above was deep blue and went on forever...and there were the parts where there was nothing below or above but endless even white and it seemed like nothing at all existed at all...
-I love flying, it's worth noting, I'm normally a fairly grounded person about such things but when I'm in an airplane I start to believe in magic just a little bit...
-I love doing fly-overs of NYC, it's so cool, all the buildings, the giant skyscrapers, look like toys that I could rearrange and play with.
-There are rich people near the city with huge houses and private beaches and docks. I don't know where, but we flew over there homes, and all I could think was how many millions of dollars that must cost to have your own fricken peninsula...
-I spotted my HS from the air (it's right on the Hudson on the lower West Side, easy to find) and it was strange, when I started school there there was nothing around it but some fields. By the time I graduated, they had built two buildings near by (taking finals while pile drivers drive in building foundations hard enough to make the school shake = the suck, by the way) and now school is surrounded on all sides except the one that's too close to the water.
-Drove by my middle school in the cab, it was weird, I hardly remembered what it looked like (has it really been 10 years? dear god!)
It's always strange for me to come back to New York. I grew up here, but I've been gone for 6 years, and it blows my mind, because whenever I come back it feels like I've never left, and yet at the same time I feel like an outsider. There's like this war, in my mind, over whether I can still call myself a New Yorker. I still feel like a New Yorker, but still...I don't know...
Anyway, as promised, that was rambling and long (and I actually cut some stuff! proof that I'm in no fit state right now is in the fact that I rambled to my mom about Changeling for like an hour, poor preservering woman...) and I want to go take a bath, because baths are nice. :) Good night everyone!
And if you think of anything you need, comment! or e-mail me! or phone me! or phone
deadmanwade! or suck it, cause I can get nothing for those who ask nothing! :)
