Our wedding and reception was very low-key and completely inexpensive (as you know). My parents handled so much, it was awesome. And then they got us a room at the local B&B that night, and THAT was lavish, at least by my standards. It was so, so nice. ^_^
See, I've never felt that way about weddings. I've gone to two older cousins' weddings and thought, "This is so superficially traditional. You don't see anything about how these people actually feel about each other. It's just a big, expensive show for the relatives." Which is what it was originally, I guess. Originally, the bride's family would throw a big party and feed everybody, big expense, in exchange for the groom's family essentially taking the burden of supporting a daughter off their hands. Anyway. Traditional weddings aren't really my thing. Now if you go lavish and very personalized, that could definitely be different than my cousins' weddings. I found them both rather dull.
