The Weekend
Nov. 27th, 2006 12:48 pmI was going to do this later as a study break, but I've procrastinated this long so I might as well finish up the procrastination by writing this update. I don't think it's going to be too terribly long. It's mostly a Changeling rant (the good kind)
Despite my intentions to get a lot of work done, I mostly ended up spending the weekend procrastinating and getting irritated with myself for doing so. This isn't like me, really, I don't normally have this much trouble. Damned senioritis. Damn never wanting to write another stinking paper about another damn topic I don't give a shit about. Turkey day itself was very nice. It was good to get to see my family, even if doing so did mean I drove 8 hours in one day (a number I'm not all that proud of, since I've done more in one day before, and anyway after hearing about how much driving
moonartemis76 and
oddsboy did, I feel vaguely inadequate. ;) ). My grandfather was well, which is good, though quieter than I'm used to him being, Jonie was on her best behavior (though she was afraid of my grandfather, which was odd), my mom was doing better which is good, the food was delicious, and generally it was nice to be there. Even though I got a speeding ticket. Also, Ben gave me his copy of Burnout 3, cause he has Burnout 4...so I'm having much fun relearning how to play on the PS2. Oh, such an awesome game... :)
Friday I spent most of the day (most of the constructive part, anyway) in the library gathering up research for the two big independent research papers I have to do this semester (one of which is due at 9:30AM on Wednesday, hence my current procrastination). Fortunately, neither one is a thesis paper, they are both literature reviews, so I'm relatively unconcerned. The one due this week is on preserving photographs and is 15-20 pages, the other is due a week from Friday and is about the history of preservation book binding. Noticing a theme? I may not get to take classes that are precisely what I want, but I can at least try to research in areas that vaguely interest me. :) I can't for the life of me remember what I did on Friday evening, but it probably wasn't terribly constructive. :)
Saturday I tried to do some work on my project but failed mostly, so instead I turned my attention to preparations for the changeling game. This ended up taking far, far longer than I ever thought it would, and eating up most of my time. Aside from hanging out a bit with
saracariad, her mom,
dyrecorn, and
schenker28, I mostly sat and wrote the letter "M" and my initials and several hundred little pieces of colored paper. Stimulating! :) It kind of amazed me how long the prep work took; I'm glad I didn't try to do it all at the last minute. And the plus side was that I didn't end up feeling like I'd been wasting my time that should have been spent on paper writing, because I was still doing something important that needed to be accomplished. I win!
I was pretty excited coming in to the game yesterday; it had felt like a long while since I'd played Changeling, and, though I was a little nervous about how the new chronicle would go with new players and the like, I had high hopes and plans to try and befriend as many new people as possible. (My mighty plan was to figure out who was mean and who was nice by going up to them and being nice to them until it became clear whether they were good or bad people. ;) ) This plan did end up working fairly well, too. I was very happy with how the game went over all, I got some horrible angst out of it (just a little!), I might be being completely used (which is totally awesome!), and generally I got to meet a lot of the new characters, reconnect with a bunch of the old characters, and, much to my amazement, really feel important. OMG, so many people approached me about the anchor! I was amazed! And pleased! I mean, once I have some more information, I have all of these people who have offered to help, I'm so excited! So yeah, thank you all you Changeling playing types so much for helping my game to totally rock, you all are the best. :) Indeed, for the first time EVER I have spent like the last hour and a half writing up e-mails related to Changeling like right after the game, trying to get stuff organized. :)
Anyway, particular shout outs to:
anima_mecanique, who I think I forgot to nom, oops!, for the usual best friend fun stuff, and helping me get to know Tess, and discussing quests and the like; to Sergei, for totally awesome being-the-freaky-ass-betrayer stuff and giving me the opportunity to be a good person vaguely in his direction; to everyone who approached me about the anchor (I'll probably miss some, but...Nikola,
swan_tower,
selenya, Careg, Archibald, Devon,
lightwhispers,
akashiver...yeah, there were definitely more but I can't think of them right now...); to the Memento crew for all being a lot of fun, it was a blast interacting with you guys; to
buzzermccain for helping support me in my attempt to talk to the group about the anchor and for sceneage after the game (what a big surprise! ;) ); to
akashiver for reminding me of why I care about Chet and why I don't really mind what she is, cause it really was always part of who she was even though I didn't know and that's not necessarily a bad thing; to
kniedzw for all kinds of stuff presumably too obvious to be worth going into in detail (though particularly for the philosopher's stone stuff, which was a lot of fun!)...and probably to others as well, but my brain is frying slowly trying to remember stuff. :)
I'm looking forward to helping with the set up for the next game; I'm hoping (much to my surprise) that the KoE people will show; I'm glad I finally was able to help with set crew because we started earlier normal; I'm annoyed that my finger is starting to hurt a lot despite being iced for four hours yesterday; and generally I'm rather bubbly about the whole kit and caboodle. Hee, hee, kit and caboodle. Silly old expressions. (wow, I'm in a weirder mood than I thought! ;) )
Anyway, I have a paper to work on and procrastination to defeat! Onward! :) (eee, my coat is coming soon!! ;) )
Oh, and my wallet turned up within like two minutes this morning. It had been moved, cause there was not even a small chance I put it where I found it, and the reason I missed it yesterday is that it was about a foot from where
saracariad was sleeping and I was trying to disturb her. No harm, no foul. :)
