Pan's Labyrinth

I will keep this spoiler free, but it's still comments on a film and I know some people don't like to read anything at all, so it's cut for safety...

For anyone who saw [livejournal.com profile] kendokamel's comments, mine are actually fairly similar. This movie is not at all what I thought it would be. I hadn't read or heard much about it before I went to the show - I knew it was a foreign language, I knew it was pretty good, and I knew it was a fantasy movie.

It was very good, and very interesting, but it wasn't a fantasy movie in the way I had thought it was. I'd almost call it a war movie (gosh, two in a week!). That said, I really liked it, though I think I need a little more time to reflect on it. It had a lot of interesting ambiguities - [livejournal.com profile] schenker28 and I were talking about it afterwards. I imagine anyone who read anything at all about it before hand wouldn't be surprised, but I was a little bit surprised. :)

Two warnings, though: it has a little bit of disgusting (open wounds, that sort of thing - I'd say more but I'd be flirting too close to the spoilers point), and there is one scene with horrible bugs.
All in all, I'd recommend it pretty highly.

Yes, that's exactly what another friend and I were saying about the misleading American marketing.

I've been mad about misleading American advertising ever since Hero came out...
