Weird Dream
I hope to have time post something more extensive later about beginnings and endings and Changeling and the last month and a half (almost two months now, I guess) and I all that jazz, but for now I don't have time, I'm still not done with the final that is due in 3 hours, though I'm a lot closer than I was an hour ago (I have about an hour of work left, maybe less, so I'm not that worried.) I'm also going to go back and unlock a bunch of old posts I made about changeling (they were private) and I'll post the links to them if anyone is bored sometime. :)
Anyway, I had this weird dream last night. In it, I woke up this morning, went to the syllabus for the class I'm doing the assignment for, and discovered that the "short essay" in the assignment was in fact a huge literature review that I needed references for and lots of other stuff. And I had less than an hour to write it - the clock said it was 12:15 and class is at 1. Freaking out, I tried to find research, but my computer wouldn't work right. Horrified, I went to another computer (the setting for the dream was kind of like a weird dormitory, the walls were painted dark blue and there were lots of narrow corridors and no doors) in a friends room, and still couldn't get it to work right. By the time I found any information at all, it was 12:45, and I gave up in despair. Wandering over to another friends room, it was suddenly 12:45 AM instead of PM, and I encountered
buzzermccain,
kniedzw,
gilded_ygdrasil, his girlfriend, and I think Fancy Dan, and maybe one or two others, playing a card game -
kniedzw was not really himself, but instead closer to being the Gambler from BAPA. And I think
saracariad might have been there too. So we were playing cards, and I was accepting that I'd gotten a zero on my assignment. We were having a lot of fun - I remember I got dealt a hand that had 6 kings in it (at which point I asked how many decks we were using, and was told we were using 5 by
saracariad), 2 aces, 2 6s and 2 4s, and that this was really good, but damned if I know what game we were playing. Then, suddenly, the people opposite me (we were sitting in comfy arm chairs and putting the cards on the floor) freaked out and got away from the floor. It turned out to be because of a terrifying looking (and, I was informed, incredibly poisonous) bug that was skittering around the area. It was bright blue and orange and about an inch long, and it was shaped like a horse except with a stiff tail; its legs were black and white striped (it resembled an African animal whose name I can't seem to recall right now that I think starts with an O). I don't remember why, but I ended up having to reach down to where it was, and I got stung, and immediately my arm started to hurt, and I looked at everyone calmly and I said "we'd better call 911 or I'm going to die in 20 minutes."
buzzermccain helped me to the phone - the first phone we used wouldn't work right, and so I used this phone that had a weird interactive screen as well. Instead of just getting me help, though, the phone kept asking me questions which I had to answer on the touch screen. At first they were reasonable, like about whether I needed the police, a fire truck, the FBI (yes, that was an option) or the hospital. Then it wanted to know what part of the hospital. After that, though, they got unreasonable, and time was passing. I was starting to feel dizzy, my heart rate was increasing, and my arm hurt more and more (I'd been stung on the hand) and the questions were about things like what brand of stuff did I use. Frustrated, I was like, "I'm going to die while I'm still trying to answer these questions! What kind of emergency system is this, they must lose patients all the fucking time!" I begged
buzzermccain to help, and she grabbed a cell phone and was having much better luck getting through than I was...and then I woke up.
I find it fascinating how many themes of my life right now were expressed in this dream. My end of semester stress, my far-too-much-time spent socializing and gaming when I aughta be getting my work done, my exasperation with waiting and waiting, my irritation that I end up having to pester other people with my problems, and perhaps an undertone that I didn't know about, that it vaguely bothers me that I have no direction to move in right now while a lot of people around me right now really do.
Anyway, I just thought it was interesting, and since some of you were involved, I figured I'd share. It ended up kinda long, though, so it's behind a cut.
