unforthI have to be on the road to Chicago in less than an hour, but I thought I'd post a quick meme first.

I decided to go with the second closest book, since the closest book was one I read yesterday - I need to put it in LibraryThing. So this is the nearest book to me that was on the book case.
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 23.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next three sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
6. Tag five other people to do the same.
"...And to be sure, as your ladyship says, the girl hath always appeared like a good, honest, plain girl, and not vain of her face, forsooth, as some wanton husseys in the neighborhood are."
"You say true, Deborah," said Miss Bridget. "If the girl had been one of those vain trollops, of which we have too many in the parish, I should have condemned my brother for his lenity towards her."

Tom Jones (A Foundling), by Henry Fielding, which was in fact the closest book on the closest shelf to me. If I'd have gone with the actual closest book, we'd have gotten...
