Well, that's settled...
...I just bought my ticket. 7:10 AM out of Indy on 8/20.
OMG freaking out slightly. :)
Next, the visa problem. Ohhh, the visa problem.
Oh, and happy birthday,
buzzermccain!! :)

In other news, I'm gonna attempt to get into the city for at least a day or two before I go, though I'm not sure if I'll have the time. If I do, it'll be in July.

And you let me know when you're coming to town. For you, I take the day off. For Widy, maybe...for you, definitely ;)
Are you on for a while right now?

I'm gonna try for a year, still, or slightly less than a year - if all goes as hoped, I'd stay there until the beginning of August of next year then wander back state-wards. The problem is the visa. They really don't like it when random westerners (or foreigners in general, really) stay in Japan for no good reason. ;)

I have thought of the "what if I hate it there?" problem...my decision was that if I hate it there, I'll buy a ticket to somewhere else - probably Australia first - and hop around the world for a year instead, spend a month or two in a bunch of different places like Australia, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, London, "Europe" in a general sense, I don't know, I haven't thought up a full list yet because I don't anticipate it as the outcome...
Being able to do translation as a job is DEFINITELY one of my goals for the next year...it's what I wanted to do when I started college, and my language skills are definitely not up to it anymore. The bookbinding is a funny situation, because it's not necessarily a full time job even after I get trained up, and it's entirely possible that I'll need several jobs in order to make ends meet, since (kind of like animation) it's the kind of job that has the potential to come and go depending on work availability and whether or not you've been lucky enough to even get work.
...and my aim is Tokyo, though if I don't like it there I'll probably wander to somewhere else (Kyoto or Osaka being the next biggest cities, and therefore my likely destinations, but Sapporo would be nice, and I certainly want to at least visit Hokkaido and the other bigger islands while I'm there...)
