I guess I'm a gamer through and through. The meeting today went much better than the one yesterday. I successfully passed the "not a freakin' weirdo" exam - as did the person I was meeting, from my point of view - and have been semi-officially invited. It sounds like a fun group; I'd be the only female character, but that doesn't bother me. It's a pretty free-form D&D, which suits me fine, and I even have an idea what I want to play, though I haven't met the DM yet - I only just got his e-mail (I had to pass the test first. ;) ) Not only that, but she was able to tell me about a couple of gamer mailing lists for the Tokyo area, which I will definitely join, and about a couple of ways to find students to tutor, an idea that I like, in some ways, more than working for an actual school (though it doesn't solve my visa problem). Aside from that, we had a nice afternoon, wandered around, etc. I would say that we're 100% on the same page, but we definitely have enough common ground to be fairly content talking. :) She and her husband are from Columbus, and they went to school in Athens (Ohio) - I thought that was neat. She mentioned that it's easier to find players than GMs, too, and she loves Changeling and has a few books, so I'm toying with the idea of putting together a Changeling game, probably borrowing at least a bit from the LARP. :)
All in all, a nice day. And I'm glad of it. Making friends = awesomeness.

I need to take some time and seriously plot about a Changeling game. I need to go to Shosen - a bookstore I found that sells a lot of English language gaming books - and see if they have any of the books. :)

I can't say I'm hugely surprised that it went well, actually. Gamers speak a common language, and the more lonely and isolated we are, the more likely we are to glom on to any other gamers we can find. ;) Still, it makes me happy.

Athens? When did she graduate? Did she go to AHS? Did she have Mr. Lolich for History? Or Ms. Patterson for English? I graduated in 1997.

Yay for friends!

She went to college in Athens, and she's three years younger than me, and she didn't graduate. ;) So I don't think she had any of the teachers you had. ;) But I still thought you'd be interested to know she'd been there.

In that case, you should ask her if she knows Abi Rollins, since Abi graduated in 2002, I think.

Yay for making new friends! Hope that the gaming group (and the game you are making!) keeps going well...
