Getting the Apartment in Order

In preparation for my trip to Indiana this weekend, I've made every effort to get my apartment in order, and I've more or less gotten there.
I unpacked everything I could at first, but of course I had a big problem. 3000 books do not fit in 2 book cases. It's a scientific impossibility. So I had 30 boxes that I couldn't unpack. In order to solve this problem, I got in touch with my brother, and this past weekend he flew into NYC to go with me to Ikea, pick up the furniture I'd picked out, help me get it in to my apartment and built, and all that sort of thing. I got a new dining table, four bookcases, and an entertainment unit. They are now all built, and I unpacked all the books, and my apartment instantly became much more livable. I still have a lot of work to do, but it's getting there much more than it was before. Once I get the rest of the stuff approximately where it goes, I'll get to clean more floor, which will make me shockingly happy - my feet get filthy if I wander around bare foot, which is really annoying.
The other big thing I did was buy a TV. My old TV was sold to
saracariad and I was left to debate: get a cheap thing that I could afford, or get a nice TV that'd last me for a good long time. After a bit of an internal struggle, I finally settled on option two, so now I have a perfectly awesome 40" widescreen flat panel Sony Bravia. I had a coupon, so after tax it was about 1250, and I put it on a credit card with zero interest for 12 months, which I should be able to pay off within that time frame (I'd better - it's one of those "but if you don't pay it all you'll owe all that interest" kinds of things). Upsettingly, at first this TV seemed to have a big problem - these utterly maddening green and purple "lines" kept going across the screen. However,
ultimabaka was able to diagnose this problem because the same thing had happened to him - it has nothing to do with the TV and everything to do with the fact that TimeWarner cable fricken sucks.
However, while B. and I were still trying to solve this difficulty, we tried getting nicer cables. A CompUSA near my place is going out of business and having a big sale, and so B. headed over there to see if he could get the cables there. He was gone for a while, and when he came back he was carrying a PS3. No cables. He'd gotten to thinking - one of the main reasons I picked the TV I did was because I was planning to ask for a PS3 for Christmas this year, and it can play Blue Ray, and I might as well have a TV which would look awesome when I could finally play the disks. It occurred to B. (it had occurred to me as well, though I hadn't said anything) that this was sort of stupid - would I just not buy any DVDs for a year? So he went all preemptive, got a deal for a PS3 for $400, and made sure I realized that I wasn't getting a Christmas or birthday present from him or K. for 2008. I was in total shock, but I'm really excited. I only own one disc right now - the system came with Spiderman 3 - but OMG it's the prettiest thing I've ever seen on a personal television. I'll be getting some more discs for free thanks to a deal, and I'm sure they'll be shiny too, though most of the choices stink, of course. I wish the games were cheaper, though, I won't be able to afford any of them for a while, though I might get Oblivion, it's only 25 bucks already. Oh, so excited!!
So things are really coming together. Once I get a step ladder so I can get to the storage that's high up in the room, I'll really be able to finish, and once I bring the stuff from Bloomington and my dad's, which I'll be picking up this weekend. All together, I should really have a "home" by the end of the month. Score!
Anyway,
sapphohestia and I are coming either very late on Friday or early on Saturday morning. We'll be in Bloomington until Monday morning. I'll be gathering most of the things that I left behind if I can, though one or two things (such as my vacuum) I may end up not taking. So, if you're reading this, and you've got stuff of mine, you might want to gather it all up. :)
