Things have been both good and bad. I have that feeling like something really, really bad is about to happen, and I don't know what to do about it or how to make it stop. My grandfather came in to town on Friday in order to go to the Bat Mitzvah of one of my cousins. He got a cold in the middle of the week, and it's taken all of the wind out of sails. At 89, even a cold can be very dangerous, and so the whole family is getting really nervous. He can barely stand - on Tuesday, he fell out of bed and couldn't get up again, and he called for help from my mom for half an hour but she couldn't hear him. We're pretty worried over all, with the side effect being that I'll be driving him home on Monday (instead of him flying back tomorrow) and then I'll be staying with him for at least a week, possibly two. This is, needless to say, a huge pain in the ass. His house doesn't even have high speed internet, just dial up, and I'll be trying to write at least one grant, and possibly more, while I'm there and taking care of him. I can feel my stress level slowly reaching freak-out levels just thinking about it.

On the plus side, my only other friend in NYC (other than [livejournal.com profile] claireon, [livejournal.com profile] bakanekotoo, and [livejournal.com profile] ultimabaka) found my contact info through Flickr and he and I met up for lunch. We hadn't spoken in about two years, and it was really nice to get to see him.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. I hope he gets better quickly! :( And just hang in there while taking care of him and working! Stress makes everything that much harder. :(

*hugs and mojo*

I hope your grandfather gets to feeling better! I know that feeling of standing around nervous, all too well.

In the meantime... dialup isn't all that bad! I use it at home, all the time, because it's freeeeeeeeee! (;

I hope your grandfather feels better. I think my mom has a similar cold - while she managed to get out of bed, she fainted when she got down to the kitchen and she's been home, mostly sleeping, all week. I hope the grant-writing proceeds alright from your remote location. Is there a local library nearby you could work for a few hours each day?

Best wishes to you and Jonie - will she be going out with you? *hugs*

It's the first time I've signed on and it is very interesting to read your blog. I hope your trip to NH is brief and productive. Using high speed internet at a library might help you with your work. Your Dad goes to the local library when he wants to use high speed Internet. Let us know when you are back in the city and we'll come in for a visit.
