Hogwarts Story: Part 13
I'm relieved to say that my paper is done, yay! My 10 page double spaced paper turned out to be 14 pages 1-and-a-half spaced, though 2 of those pages are diagrams, so hopefully my professor won't notice how much longer it is than it's supposed to be - this is after I cut two sections too (well, I never wrote the two, so I didn't cut them per se, but they were part of my original outline. :) ) This paper is a new record for me. See, I used to be a shameless procrastinator, but in the last few years I've slowly become...responsible. I had to do a chunk of the research for this paper for my presentation yesterday, but the actual paper isn't due until next Friday. I've never finished a paper a week early before...it's weird. :) Two papers down, one to go...
In other news, I was most annoyed today to discover that WinMX is no longer free. I know, I know, musicians deserve to get money for their music. But I also feel that musicians should be held accountable for producing quality music, not schlock. When I find music I like (after free downloading) I go out and buy the CDs. I've bought more CDs because of downloading than I ever bought before the beginning of Napster. So yeah, I want to download music, and I can't, and I'm sad. :) I'll recover, though. I'm thinking about actually, imagine, paying Napster or some such. Anyone tried any good pay-for-music programs?
The Hogwarts interlude last night was much fun. Yay, sappy conversations! :) Also, I'm starting to believe that Denny's as an aura, that, no matter where you are, no matter who you are with, no matter how little or well you know the people you are with, if it is 3 AM and you are at Denny's, everything will be funny and awesome. I've had far too many late nights at Denny's in the last 5 years (before then, I'd never even *been* to a Denny's). I'm looking forward to the game tomorrow. It's the inception of my officially being an AST (at least I think it is) and I'm rather nervous, I'm not a particularly experienced GM (I've run 2 one shots and two campaigns, one of which died horribly after about 2 months and other of which I run online every Tuesday night for
deadmanwade,
eviltophat,
mistress_sin and
xaniquen, who are all friends from Binghamton except for the dead man. ;) ) but I think everything will work out, I have some self confidence somewhere deep inside. :)
Anyway, enough rambling, on to the writing!
“What do you suggest?” asked one of the Lunari twins in a practical tone of voice.
“Well, as to that,” replied the boy lasciviously, “I think it’s better to ask what you can do for me.”
Shaking my head slightly, I moved a little farther down to the hall to keep a look out for the groundskeeper. I had the feeling that this was going to be a long conversation.
“Hmm,” replied the other Lunari. “Good point. Well, what sorts of things do you want?”
“I’m sure we could get you out of here,” added Lunari 1. One of these years, I will learn how to tell Maya and Aya a part, but until then I’ve always found it easier just to refer to them numerically in the order I start thinking about them – thus, the Lunari who spoke first is Lunari 1, in my mind, and the other is Lunari 2. This way, I have always been able to avoid getting confused, by simply deciding I don’t mind one way or the other. I’ve never actually spoken to them of this, but they’ve never seemed to mind that I never call them individually by name, so it all works out I suppose.
“Naw, nothin’ doin’, I could get out if that was what I wanted,” relied the boy on the wall. “What brings you fine young lasses – and lads, I suppose – down here this day? It’s a little late for students to be out of bed, don’t ya know.” He paused.
“We should call the groundskeeper,” added the other boy who was strung up in a weak sort of voice.
The first boy laughed, though. “Aren’t you a right fool, Farsy. That’s what’s got put down here ain’t it. You keep your mouth shut, you Slytherin bastard, and leave this to me.” The other boy, Farsy, started to protest weakly, but started to give up.
“You’re a Slytherin?” asked Lunari 2 curiously. “How come I’ve never seen you around before? I thought I knew most of the older students, are you new?”
“Pay him no mind,” said the first boy, while Farsy remained sullenly quiet. “He’s been down here a full 8 months, he’s got nothin’ of any interest to say at this point.”
“8 months?” exclaimed Celestine, horrified. “How long have you been down here?”
“Me?” he paused pensively. “You know, I haven’t right thought about that in some time now…I suppose it’d have to be, oh I’m not even sure, maybe a little over a year. I’ve still got about that long to go, though,” he added as if he was proud of how much longer he’d be chained to that wall.
None of us seemed to quite know how to reply to this, for several moments of silence followed his announcement. Then, Lunari 1 – at least I think it was Lunari 1, there had been some moving around so I could no longer be quite sure – spoke again. “What’d you do?” she asked, utterly incredulous.
“Now, no, that doesn’t matter none,” his voice rolled slightly with an unspoken laugh. “Still, it occurs to me, this whole conversation has been right uncivil, for you ladies haven’t introduced yourselves to me yet,” he paused, and then added as an after thought, “and neither have you gentlemen.”
One by one we all introduced ourselves, and when we were done, he smiled and nodded. “Very good. I’m Zonks.”
