Why I Love the Internet
Apr. 30th, 2008 12:52 pmYou know I love the internet? Because I can be working on a story, and think, "you know, instead of just making up headlines from June 2nd, 1956, why I don't go find some actual headlines?" And I can go to nytimes.com, find an entire long list of articles in the paper that day, and pick out one or two that are absolutely perfect (a drought in the place where my story is set! a headline in which Nixon is quoted as declaring that voter apathy will be the downfall of the G.O.P....) and it doesn't take me more than 10 minutes and I don't have to leave my home.
Thank you, internet.

Date: 2008-05-06 07:24 pm (UTC)The boys are now in NYC (if it was City then, heh, in the "rural" part of Manhattan...), but they are about to travel some 40 miles south-west to New Brunshwick, where Gen. Howe is stationed (if I get all those Brunshwicks right, that is). Year 1776, shortly after NY was captured by the Brits, and just before the first major loss of British army at Trenton. They will go much farther north next winter...
I know there should be some data, memoirs maybe on the net, but digging through all that is quite a challenge, so I'll just go with my imagination.
