Well, I weighed myself on Tuesday and it made me sad, and then I forgot to check my measurements before eating yesterday morning (I had a busy day yesterday, with a full-day program observation starting at 8:30...) so I'm slightly late, but here we go:
End of Week 1:
Weight: 164 (fully clothed including shoes at 4:45 in the afternoon less than an hour after eating)
Bust: 37 1/2"
Waist: 33 1/2"
Hips: 43"
Pants size: 10 (though my pants seem to be fitting better, and some of the pairs I bought a couple of weeks ago at Goodwill are definitely fitting more loosely than when I bought them, though some of that is stretching. :) )
Miles walked: 44.4
I'm rather proud of myself, in that I completed resisted the temptation to measure at interim times (which wouldn't show anything anyway!). Overall, it's been going pretty well. I'm getting tired of eating a salad every night (in addition to what for me would be a normal dinner) but I'm still doing it; next time I run out of ingredients I need to figure out what I can do to vary things up. The real problem I run in to is serving sizes and living alone - for example, on the first night I made this bag of whole wheat pasta, and I only just finished it last night, having eaten a little of it every day but one in the interim. Now, it was really tasty so I'm not complaining, but still I need to figure out ways to vary things up. Same happens with salad - I love mushrooms, but I've had one in every salad and it's starting to get old, but I don't have a choice because they'll go bad, and I want to throw away as little food as possible. I think I'll get more used to this sort of thing with time, though. I've been happy to discover that I like yogurt even more than I remember, and I've been tasting Balance and Lune and Kasha bars one by one (all high fiber/high protein/low glycemic index bars) and making notes on which ones taste good. On Tuesday, as a reward for myself, I got some of the no-fat no sugar added ice cream I love so much, and I'm still experimenting to see if I can trust myself with it in the house. Yesterday was a bad day, though, probably because I got SO little sleep (damn All-Star game going until so late, and then work the next morning!) and I was out for lunch, so there was red-light stuff in my lunch though I kept it small (just one two-inch sandwich segment which is bigger than it sounds and a cookie), and I failed to resist a small handful of potato chips, and then I had an extra serving of ice cream after dinner. Still, as infractions go, it really wasn't that bad, and wouldn't have bothered me much at all but for the fact that I was also too tired to take the dog on a longish walk, so I didn't get much exercise.

Edit: The nice thing I forgot the mention that'll make me sound like an advertisement is that the best part of the past week is that I haven't really spent any time hungry. When I get hungry, I eat - that's what the no-fat no sugar added yogurt and the energy bars are around for. And I actually keep overeating at dinner, which is to say that I keep finishing and being very full and thinking, I could have eaten less than that. These are both very nice feelings. Also, I like the encouragement to drink lots and lots of water, for fridge-cooled h2o is a big relief in my constantly 85 degree apartment. :)

Starting measurements - 7/9/2008:
Weight: 163 pounds (this was naked first thing in the morning. However, because I don't own a scale I'll NEVER be able to replicate that, I usually weigh myself on afternoons when I visit mom, so it's not the worlds best baseline.)
Bust: 38"
Waist: 34"
Hips: 43"
Pants size: 10
In conclusion, in one week I've lost an uncertain, greater than 0, number of pounds, and a half inch from my bust and waist. It's sort of like progress. :)

Why thank you, I'm not there yet I really want to be and I'm starting to think this one might actually work, though I still refuse to get my hopes to high. But am I really a meany??

I can give you the low-down on the diet I'm trying, if you'd like. I'm really liking it so far.

good for you! and remember that a Balance bar is enough that it can actually be one of your 5 or 6 meals. The diet is based on what is optimal for your body... it does work. And by the way, how has your energy level been?

Yep! I've actually been eating half of the balance bar as a snack. My energy has been a bit all over the place, but I think it's being influenced more by the heat than anything else. :) My mood has been sky high, except for the day I got no sleep, and being happy makes me happy. ;)

Wow! Good job!

Have you considered freezing single servings of your food for later use? Seems like that might be a good thing for your pasta, hamburger, etc. And I found when I was attempting to lose weight it was really helpfull to keep stocked on sandwich bags of carrot stickw, cut broccoli and cauliflower, and the like. Stir fry with cabbage (and you can use water instead of oil for the stir fry, if you are careful) would work for your mushrroms, add some onions and other vegies and maybe use a little broth for flavor.

Stuffing the mushroom with fresh garlic and onions and anything else that is legal on your diet and will add flavor (leftover steamed vegies) and maybe a little cheese (low-fat, of course) on the top and broiled is good, too.

Go you! :)

I do the single serving thing with meat, though I never thought to do it with pasta.

And thanks for the ideas! Especially stuffing the mushrooms, that sounds delicious. :) Tasty ideas are what (I hope!) will get me through this diet.

hey!

hey claire!

mazel tov...sounds like you're doing great! i don't know if this is something you'd be interested in, but i've been doing jazzercise (that aerobics class that's been around since the 80's) since november, and i've lost a little over 20 lbs (and that's w/out changing by diet). you'd probably rock it even harder since you're doing a diet. it's really fun, and i figured since we're both big fans of DDR, you might like it too : )

also, i can't remember if you like fresh tomatoes/cucumbers, but one thing i LOVE to eat is sliced tomatoes/cucumbers w/ balsamic vinegar and a tiny bit of olive oil drizzled over them and a little salt and pepper sprinkled on top...then just give it a good mix and enjoy!

doing any bookbinding stuff lately? anyway, just thought i'd send you a howdy from the hoosier state : )

Hey Lil!
That does sound fun - and congrats on the weight loss, that's wonderful!

I haven't been doing any bookbinding lately, it's quite sad. It just doesn't seem to be fitting in with my current schedule. How about you - what have you been doing these days?
