Forgot We've Got So Far To Go
As I suggested in my previous post, not everything we want happens. Case in point: Proposition 8 in California has been called by the AP. California voters, by a narrow margin (not that narrow, really - 400,000 votes...), have approved a ban on gay marriage. I wonder how my uncles voted?

It's odd, actually - to me it seems entirely counterintuitive that bans on gay marriage pass but bans on abortion don't (don't get me wrong - I'm heavily pro abortion) - to me, it seems like if one is religious, there should be a moral imperative to prevent abortions, since in the eyes of these religious folks babies are being murdered and nobody seems to care. I can understand that these people believe that they are preventing mass murder - thus, I'd expect such bans to pass, reflecting this. On the other hand, gay marriage has nothing whatsoever to do with these people, and there is no violation of the ten commandments entailed by homosexual interactions. And so I just don't get it.

Also, abortion potentially affects the entire population (women directly, men indirectly), while gay marriage just benefits gays. Less skin off everyone else's back.
