Stranded Holiday Travelers

For the first time in my life, I'm watching the news about stranded air travelers from the position of being one. Mom and I were flying back from Texas today, but due to the weather and some negligence by Delta (we were rescheduled, apparently, to a flight very early this morning, which we could have made easily if only some one had bothered to tell us) we find ourselves stuck in Atlanta, scheduled for the last flight to Newark (note that our original itenerary called for us to go to Laguardia by way of Cincinatti...). Our flight - still more than an hour til it was supposed to board, is already delayed to 10:20 (again, originally we were supposed to arrive in NY at 5 pm) and at this point I'm favoring the pessimism that says we won't get out tonight - which would be very bad, because due to others having flights cancelled there is not a single seat to NY until Sunday. If it does get pushed back that far, it will rank as by far the lamest way I've ever spent my birthday (as I will be turning 26 on the 21st). All in all, it's been a fairly lousy day, spent entirely in airports or plains (2 and a half hours in a plain, 9 in airports so far). I was forced to check my carry on, and god alone knows if it will make it to Newark - it contains all clothes, toilettreies, most books and my computer. Thank god for Blackberry! Still, my spirits aren't bad, and at least we have seats on this flight, so if it actually gets of the ground we will get to NY - probably after 2 am.

Ugh. I hope you get home soon. I had a similar problem with Northwest, although luckily I discovered my flight back to Japan had been canceled when I checked in online, and I was able to fly from Newark instead. Last time I flew with them, though, and I'll most definitely be avoiding Delta in future, too. *hugs*

Sorry to hear it -- Airports suck!

My plane was 1n hour late leaving Indy, so when I arrived in Denver I got out of the plane as quickly as possible, and asked the waiting Frontier Airlines person about the status... they said I would be "fine" and they gave me directions to my gate: "don't worry, it hasn't left yet; everything has been delayed" -- I was already 10 minutes pat schedule departure time, so I was worried.

Instead of walking to the gate, I didn't trust them, so I sprinted with my bags way to the other end of the terminal. I arrived out of breath at the gate just as they were starting to close the door... so they waited for me and got me on the plane at the very last second.

Of course my checked bag didn't make it, and I had to wait in line and file the report... and then today, I called the 800 # early to follow up cause I thought the person taking my baggage claim paperwork looked sort of disinterested. Turned out she hadn't even put my info into the system at all! So It took several more phone calls to get Frontier to even acknowledge the existence of my bag. They did deliver it today, eventually, but it was a pretty unreasonable delay, since it arrived last night and they didn't bother to ever contact me until I started pestering them.

I hope you get that sexy ass of yours back into the city safely. Getting into Newark at 2am doesn't sound like my idea of a good night at all, but at least that gets you back into Penn at 4 or so.
