Yesterday, I...

Yesterday, I...
...made an offer on Apartment 3N - $125,000, 20% down, so $25,000 up front and a $100k loan.
...contacted Chase about my brokerage account, found out that there's only a 1% penalty, and confirmed that I'd like the money withdrawn cause I need it.
...had that offer accepted without a counter offer.
...spoke to a real estate attorney, who turns out to cost just about double what I'd expected ($950).
...confirmed that I had an attorney so that the seller could prepare a purchase contract.
...spoke with the mortgage person I'd contacted last week.
...locked in a rate on a 15 year mortgage with an interest rate of 4.875%, 1.125 points, a monthly payment of $784, and a closing cost of $2555.
...had the final non-down payment costs still come out to less than I'd estimated, with the result that I'll need $28,505 up front.
...took steps to ensure that I could personally produce $23,500 of that money...okay, I can toss in the other $5, so $23,505. :)
...spent more time thinking about going to back to school.
...continued to feel good about the geology/paleontology option.
...did more research on schools with programs in this area.
...confirmed that there are only poor options in NYC.
...expanded the search range to anything in reasonable driving distance.
...discovered that SUNY Stony Brook - I'm a graduate of the SUNY system, and was accepted to Stony Brook out of HS though I didn't go - has one of the top 30 geology departments in the country - better than many noted universities, including IU, Dartmouth, and others - and is only 2 hours away, out in Long Island.
...called the Stony Brook admissions office to get some questions about matriculation and second bachelors candidates answered.
...decided that I'd done enough for one fricken day, and went out and treated myself to a calzone, a cupcake, and two more books by Gould, just because...
...today won't be as busy. I hope. :)

Date: 2009-07-15 12:45 am (UTC)If you have geology-degree questions, ask me for my dad's or Annika's email addresses. You know my dad is like top-super-geologist, and I suspect he may have something useful to tell you if you have any questions as all.

Date: 2009-07-15 11:44 am (UTC)And I definitely will ask - I've not got any yet, I've just been reading up on wiki about different types of geology to get a sense of what interests me. But I can't imagine I won't have a question at some point in all this...
