Day 9 went unposted about last night because it was singularly uneventful. A major work thing came to the forefront on Day 8, and had to be done by Oct. 1st, which is before we get back. On reflection I decided that I had done everything in Rome that I felt most strongly about - that I could pass on the things that I hadn't done yet, and save them for some future trip - and that rather than work for only a few hours a day on this work thing and have it hanging over my head for most of the trip (with the further concern of the unknown status of internet availability in our hotel room in Venice) I spent a good chunk of Friday evening, Saturday day, and most of this morning, and am now pretty much done (completely done as far as I'm concerned, but it's pending approval by both the client and the external folks who have to give a thumbs up on it). After that, we went to Babington's again, which remains very pleasant though very expensive, and then I pondered going for a night walk, and decided not to. Thus, I did essentially nothing of any interest yesterday, and thus did not write about it.
Today, we catch a train for Venice. We leave at 12:45, and will arrive around 4:30, then will hop in a cab to the Hotel Grimani. I have no idea how much internet access I'll have; probably not as much as I have here, but if I'm lucky, what ever I do have will be faster. :) I've started to read up on Venice, and it doesn't seem like there's as much to do there, and it seems like it's a very nice city to just wander, so I suspect the second half of this trip will be more low key than the first half. Anyway, it's 7 days in Venice, then an overnight at a Rome airport hotel, and an early departure on the morning of October 4th, and home! I'm glad I got the work thing done. I'm less glad at the work things waiting for me when I get back - but this was a big one.
Onward!
