Hey all, I mentioned in a previous post a plug for my custom Christmas cards. What is that guy with the crown? He's weeeird! These look like nice photos for card! J and I will be making our own like usual. Reminding me... *goes to post*

He's a statue on one of the buildings along 110th street, there's like 6 of them. I have no clue why they are there, and absolutely no idea why it was wearing a crown, though I do have a theory. :) Ya see, the crown is identical to the ones given out to those who raise $1000 or more dollars for NYC Aids Walk (mom and I pulled it off one year), and AIDS Walk goes right by this building, so I think it's at least possible that someone wasn't able to resist putting the crown on the dude. Of course, AIDS Walk is in May, and this was in February, but...details, details. ;)

Oh, do you have an co-ops you could ask to sell things for you? Bloomingfoods sells cards by three or four local artists and they seem to be pretty successful.

That's a good thought! While I don't have co-ops, I might be able to find something similar. I had already been considering marketing the patterns and dolls through local yarn stores, I just haven't gotten around to doing the necessary work yet. I need about a week where I'm not super busy with the day job. For the cards, maybe I should outreach to Bloomingfoods!

I feel like the key with the cards is getting a following, even more so than with the patterns and such. I mean, if someone wants a goose pattern, there just aren't many options, so they're likely to go with mine. On the other hand, there are lots of excellent photographers and lovely cards on the internet, and while mine are competitively priced, that's not necessarily good enough. But I've got one person, fireun, who whenever she wants to get new cards, she thinks of me. For the cards to really succeed, I think I just need a lot more people to think that way, and I suspect the way to get that following is in person at craft fairs. I'm hoping to get going to craft fairs starting sometime in the spring, though I'll have to see how things go... :)
