Shopping is spiffy...
Having a pretty good trip so far. There is nothing quite like a place where you can have sushi delivered to your house...
Yesterday, wandered about the neighborhood a bit. Acquired Droste Cocoa at Zabar's (I'm glad I was correct about it's availability there...), acquired bagels (mmm, bagels), bought some books at Barnes and Noble (including the ones I stupidly forgot in Bloomington - return those ones anytime ya want,
deadmanwade, and generally had a pleasant day. Headed home earlyish in the day watched the A&E Pride and Prejudice with mom. (Pride and Prejudice is her favorite Jane Austen, and Jane Austen is her favorite author...) Learned to knit well enough to start making cute arm warmer things that I found in one of mom's magazines.
Today was a bit hectic. Headed out early to go to Best Buy, questing for a copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on DVD for mom. However, Best Buy downtown was sold out. Then, remembering the advice of
kitsune_den, I headed over to T.J. Maxx with mom, and found tons of great clothing. I'm so happy! I got lots of long skirts and comfy tops that not only look good, not only match other stuff that I wear, but that I really like! And a lot of them will be wearable for Kathryn, which also makes me happy, because I was running out of stuff to wear that was at all interesting. :) The best find was definitely the corset - mom spotted and yoinked a tan leather hard boned corset, sans lacing, which cost a measly 16 dollars because it was on clearance. Needless to say, I was thrilled. After that, went to the eye doctor, found out that maybe it's more than just my lenses being scratched that's been giving me headaches, my prescription's changed noticably in my astigmatism (left eye - right eye is near sighted). Then went over to a trendy glasses place and bought new frames and lenses (thank you god...er...mom!!). THEN went over to the dentist, and have to remember to thank Nancy (
deadmanwade's mom) for the nice toothbrush, because this was like the first time ever that the dentist wasn't horrified by my plaque. On the flip side, she pulled out the drill, I had some weird fissure she had to work on, and I've never had a tooth drilled before; fortunately, it was nothing serious, thank god. Finally, headed back uptown; stopped at another Best Buy, where they had Harry Potter and the new Pride and Prejudice. Went home, met one of mom's friends, a nice girl name Alexis, and then started to watch the P&P, but it got late and mom was tired, so we stopped. Also, managed to acquire something gaudy. :)
Oh, and I've been meaning to post this - it's a picture of the pattern I want to use to make my dress...

...I'm so happy about my new clothing!! :) And "From Far Away" vol. 9 came out! And Garry Kasparov was at Barnes and Noble when we went there, it was spiffy! And hot spiced cider is yummy stuff, I wish I'd know that years ago! :)
