Yesterday, I broke up with Jason. I could say a lot more about this, but really, I don't want to, at least not in LJ. I'm depressed and guilty and tired and a bit stressed, but this is what I had to do. Anyone who really wants to know more should get in touch; I don't really want to write about it.

[livejournal.com profile] saracariad and I are looking for a place together, and we've found a few nice ones already and will be looking a bit more today. There's one place we really like, The Boulders, which is rather pricey but really...professional. We were joking that we'd feel like grown-up's if we lived there. Anyone have any experiences with it? It's run by Deer Park Management, - anything we should know? - [livejournal.com profile] buzzermccain, I'm looking at you, Bart Villa is one of theirs!

My dad is coming in to town tomorrow, which will be nice. I haven't seen him since Christmas, and have only seen him like twice in the past year, and I don't really chat on the phone with him (though we exchange occasional e-mails) so it'll be good to catch up. He's visiting with my brother in Columbus OH now, and will be arriving around noon tomorrow. I haven't got lots planned, but I was thinking we'd check out some nature-y places like Cedar Bluffs, cause he loves to hike, and unless he objects we'll be seeing 12th Night that evening. (so anyone else planning to go at that time will see us there!) :) Other than that, I've had some other ideas. I'm not entirely sure when he is leaving though, which has made planning hard in some ways. :)

Mom's first real doctor's appointment since the surgery is going on right now. Because of the restriction on "no riding in moving vehicles," they've sent a physical therapist and a home nurse a few times, but no actual visits. But today she got in a cab and headed to the doctor. It's been 6 weeks since her surgery. She's been doing very well over all - I've not written that much about it - though she's been in more pain again recently, which has been worrying her a bit. Today the doctor will either clear her to ride in vehicles again or he won't (in which case it will be at least three more weeks before she can, as far as I know) and they'll do some x-ray's and give a general sense of her recovery thus far. She's nervous about it, I think, though she wasn't really talking to me about it because I was burdening her with my own stuff. :)

If she does get cleared, though, she and I have been talking about her visiting later in the summer, which'd be a lot of fun. My mom's a geek more than most adults (most people over 60) are (former gamer, digs anime and manga, that sort of thing) and she loves meeting my friends and, well, I think she's pretty awesome. :) But I'll know better after this appointment, I think.

Today I take Jonie to the vet for real, her appointment is at noon. This is just your standard puppy check up, and they'll probably give her some shots and such, and let me know when I should bring her back. I need to remember to talk to them about Heartworm medicine and about flea and tic stuff (my mom reminded me of that!). She's been doing really well, though. Her paw seems completely fine, she's still not ever actually peed in my house (though she peed in [livejournal.com profile] deadmanwade's, SORRY!!!!!) and she even incredibly patiently followed us house hunting yesterday (and didn't destroy a single thing in the car despite being in it for an extended period of time!). I just need to work on that walking thing of hers - which is the way that she doesn't want to walk anywhere. Once she gets going and gets used to the idea, she's usually pretty eager, but getting her started is really tough, and she'll often randomly flop down and decide that she doesn't want to go another step. My current hypothesis, judging by what I've seen of her behavior, is that she is terrified. Evidence for this is primarily the fact that when I've given her time to get acclimated, she usually does want to move after a while, the fact that if I get insistent enough, she'll start crying (insistent = taking a more firm tone, tugging her a little to remind her who is boss, and offering her a treat if she'll get her butt to where I'm standing) and just generally the way she cowers and doesn't move until she feels comfortable. She also will sometimes get stubborn like this if I won't let her go the direction she wants to go (yesterday, she flat out decided she wasn't going down the stairs in 3rd St. Park, and wouldn't move until I decided to try to take her around the stairs instead of down them.)
Speaking of stairs, I was oh so proud of her, though - she climbed up an entire flight!! I was amazed. She got a treat for that one. ;)

I finally got my new debit card in the mail. Great, huh? Well, it uses the same PIN as the old one - you know, the pin I didn't know, which is why my card got deactivated in the first place? So now I have to wait another 7 to 10 days to get my new pin. Sigh. We live in an amazing age. Soon, soon I'll have a credit card that isn't Discover again... :)

Plan for the day: Going to vet, then going to do more house-hunting, and then ???.
Plan for tomorrow: hang out with dad, go to 12th Night.
Later all!

Yeah, that was my impression on the Bart Villa situation - that they do a poor job of responding to maintenance complaints. Course, the Boulders is their "high end" property, so who knows how they'll be there?

Thanks for the well wishes!

The dog advice is sound, I think - it's much cooler and less humid today, and sure enough I had much less trouble getting her out and about - she still did the flop down thing, but she responded to my attempts to get her up again pretty enthusiastically, as compared to the last few days, when she just stared at me adorably and made me feel bad about trying to make her do anything. :) Thanks!

We should get together and hang out and have a doggy playdate and stuff. :) The Boulder's is pretty close to where you live, too (I think it is, anyway. ;) My sense of these things isn't always the best. ;) )

Thanks. :)

If it'd been easy, that would have been worse I think.

Thanks. :) Once I know what our other top choices are, I'll post them too, maybe there'll be more advice on those. :)

Thanks much - will do. It never ceases to amaze me that I can get pretty into the Eye of the World even after having read it so many times. Heck, this time around I even noticed something that, while it's been pointed out to me I think, I never did notice for sure before. It's bizarre to find something "new" after so much exposure. :)

Nice to know that you don't mind if monkeys smite people you've never met. ;) That's why we've got to get you here for some time over the summer - once you know some people you'll have even more fun suggesting smiting! ;)

Well then, I'll just have to find some other place for the monkey to be other than at the ceremony. I guess I'll just have to bring it by the house later on. =)

causing mayhem and eating bananas!

if only you could shrink said monkey and put it in stragetic locations that would take a person actually looking for it to find it.

As I've said before, let me know if there's anything I can do. I am certified in
  • being a sympathetic ear,
  • constructive criticism,
  • geeking about various games,
  • watching movies,
  • fixing computers of various sorts,
  • liking cheese, and
  • mildly retarded muppet-dancing.
If any of these things might be a useful distraction, I'm around, even if I'm overbooked occasionally. I'm sure that I can make some time to, for instance, introduce you to The Sandbaggers, which is perhaps the greatest spy series ever produced.

Plus, puppies are nifty, and I will bend over backwards to have the chance to hang out with one.

...mildly...retarded...muppet...dancing?

Okay, that I have GOT to see. :)

Thanks much for the hanging around offer - you keep talking about Sandbaggers, we should bring the watching of it about some time. :)

It's what I generally refer to as "capering," and it rarely fails to bring about a smile on those who watch it.

...and The Sandbaggers is certainly doable, now that Heather said that she is done with Season One. I expect to have it returned to me soon.

Of course, if you really cared, you'd listen to the Dino soundtracks I gave you and tell me what you think of them. :)

I can, but then it wouldn't be an actual live monkey. Though your monkey here is quite small and easily hidden (on a computer).

I'm sorry hun =( It's a tough thing to do....but then again that's kinda silly to say when you already know that. We haven't hung out as much lately, we should remedy that.

As in flayed, or does the cursed series use it to mean something else?

From: [identity profile] unforth.livejournal.com
As far as I know, it is used in it's standard connotations.

I can't deny that it is an accursed series, though. ;)

That pretty much sums it up, yes. The AC in my whole building doesn't work and is, admittedly expensive to replace, but still, seeing them building a new gazebo while sitting in a 92 degree apt (the literal temperature, I might add, I know because of the fish) made me a bit... techy.

Oh, and two days ago two out of three of my fish died because it got up to 97 degrees in here.

However, mindstalk is right, this is their ghetto property, and I suspect you would have less trouble at one of their upscale places.
