May Interlude

A few things happened...remember my note about time line? Well, it gets messy.

Kathryn goes to talk to Dino again a few days after the previous conversation. Things get distracted again almost immediately - she wants to tell him about the egg, but it's all sort of scary, and so she always procrastinates it, and by the time she starts to get the nerve, the conversation has gone in all sorts of the wrong directions. She goes to speak to him, but at first it doesn't work at all. Dino, who apparently looks through Kathryn's plans, noticed that Kathryn was working on plans for a suit of armor, and asked who it was for. Kathryn, who has promised not to tell about the armor for Azzy that Lara has requested, hedges her bet a bit, but Dino, who is skilled at determining things such as measurements, is able to guess. Kathryn apologizes, but then explains about the armor, since he basically knows already, but makes sure that he won't tell anyone. Dino also asks whether she is going to make the mask, and she sort of sadly says that she won't, which prompts a great deal of relief.

Several moments of silence follow, and finally Kathryn works up the nerve to talk to him about the egg. She reminds him about how worried he was, and asks if he still wants to know - he looks a bit alarmed at being reminded of such a thing, wondering what she means, and so she explains in full, telling about how she opened the egg, and though she didn't know what was inside, she had this moment of clarity. She pauses, as if for one moment of self reflection before she is done, and then she looked at him and said it flat out, "I love you, Dino." For several long moments, he just sort of looked at her, completely helplessly confused, and then he grabbed her and kissed her. However, before they could investigate this conversation further, Kaye and the Countess walked by, and, embaressed, they stopped. Dino, clearly feeling very awkward, said he needed to talk to Kaye, and Kathryn went to work in the forge.

Kaye came by the forge a few minutes later, her eyes glittering with laughter. She wanted to know what on earth Kathryn had said to Dino, because he was acting very oddly indeed. Kathryn, who had already told Kaye about the egg, told Kaye that's what she had said, and Kaye seemed even more amused, though all she said was "oh." :) They returned together, and Kathryn helped prepare a meal (including a highly amusing moment when Dino had to explain vaguely why the Countess should turn around while Kaye and Kathryn cooked.

Kathryn took some over the following days to check up on her friends. She made Petra promise not to talk about the shield that she was planning, asked Pinnochio to not put himself pointlessly in danger again as he had by attending the White Court, and spoke to Careg and Amelie to make sure that they were both doing well - she had fun going and spending some girly time with Amelie, getting ice cream and generally having some fun.

Later, Diezel came by and asked Kathryn for some advice. Apparently, there is a guy that Diezel likes (Kathryn thinks it's probably Thangobrind, though she's not sure) but Diezel can't seem to find out if he also likes her, so she asked for advice. Kathryn, apologizing, said she wasn't the best to help out with such things; she still wasn't certain if Dino liked her, though she was fairly confident that he did, though beyond that she had no idea, because why on earth would he let her be around so much if he didn't like her? However, she did her best to give Diezel romantic advice, though most of Kathryn's suggestions were things that either wouldn't work or that Diezel had already tried. She felt bad that she couldn't do more.

Finally, Kathryn was working in the forge, looking out towards the grounds of Willowgrove, when a van drove up, and from it emerged Ree, carrying Percival (the name of Dino's mortal self) with no sign of Dino at all to be seen. Horrified, Kathryn went out to help. Percy was injured, a 9 inch spike tacking his hands together over his chest, and his fae seeming was completely subsumed, though Ree assured Kathryn this was simply exhaustion. Casting a quick heather balm, Ree went to find help for Thraxx, who was still missing, and Kaye came and helped with Dino, as they lay him before the Willow. He was in and out of consciousness (and he called Kaye by her real name, Jessica) but he was able to explain that Lexx was responsible for his injury, but that he'd been able to stop what Lexx had been trying to do (though what that was was less than clear). Over the course of that night, as they sat before the tree, Kaye and Kathryn sat plotting what they were going to do Lexx for this, for though Dino hadn't lost use of his hands, it had been frighteningly close. They're plotting was far ranging, including physical and social harms of various sorts. Kathryn was a little frightened by her vicious streak, but she felt it so strongly. By morning, Dino was almost himself again, though he was still exhausted, and he explained that Lex had been trying to raise Jedeil from the dead, but he hadn't met with success because Dino had stopped him by channeling the powers around him. However, it had gone very sour - Lexx had shot Dino in the hands, and Thraxx had shown up and been unsure who to side with, and though Jedeil hadn't been raised, his human (Michael) had been, and was now a hunter. It was, in short, a disaster. Thraxx was missing and Lexx was dead and, well, it was bad.

Kathryn never did learn how Thraxx was saved, but fortunately he was.

I think I may have forgotten to include the stuff with Messina, which took place in March. I think I should just go through my e-mail when all is said and done and incorporate things from it pretty thoroughly - since the idea is to not lose stuff, and why rewrite the e-mail stuff, when, well, it's already written!

The chronology of Lex's attempt to raise Jadael is a bit muddied and (in parts) incorrect. Lex had been working with Thraxx, actually, and Dino arrived with Ree to attempt to stop him. Dino managed to divert the energies Lex had been channeling after Ree told him that it was all going to go south, and Thraxx, confused, waffled long enough for Lex to shoot Dino in the hands with a nail gun in order to distract him.

This was a sufficient distraction, as it turned out, and the ritual continued, but it resulted in Jadael rising as a revenge-driven undead entity, rather than coming back in a good way. This "raising" happened at the same time that some hunters showed up, at which point Thraxx made a break for it, but not before he was marked by the hunters. The problem was that the mark (which allowed the hunters to track Thraxx) was sufficiently ingrained in Thraxx's lifeforce that the only way to remove it was to kill Thraxx and resuscitate him before his fae soul left his body. ...which was done, but only with Kaye's help, and at great mental and physical toll.
