Okay. So I've talked to a few people about this today, and they seemed interested, so I went ahead and created a community. Why have you done this thing, you might ask?

So, I've spoken to people about this sporadically, particularly

sapphohestia, with whom I initially fleshed out this idea, and I'm pretty excited about it over all. See, I want to drive across the country. No, more ambitious than that. I want to drive around the country. The plan? Next summer, I'll head out in mid-June or so (I think - my dad just invited me to something spiffy next June, which may affect the timeline) and drive to a coast (probably Atlanta or D.C., specifically) and begin a loop which will take me up the east coast, across Canada, down the west coast, and across the southern edge of the U.S., before ultimately leaving me back in Bloomington. I intend to take at least a month to do this. I'm really looking forward to it already. ;)

So what does this have to do with an LJ community! That is the question! See, I want to learn all kinds of cool things about the country, nifty places to go, cool things to see, quirky spots, good restaurants, you name it. I want to solicit this kind of advivce from my friends. But earlier this evening, I was talking to some folk about this (

schenker28 and

fallenrose, mostly) and got to thinking: why solicit advice only for myself? We're all awesome people, and I'm sure we've all seen all kinds of cool places in the various locations we've visited, lived, etc. I thought it might be fun for all of use who are at all travel inclined to use a community to trade this kind of awesome information. Talk about the places you know! Tell cool stories! (help me find things to go see)! Post pictures! I don't really care, as long as people are having fun. As I see it, the worst that happens is that no one uses this, and it just disappears into the internet ether, and at best maybe we can all find out some cool stuff this way. ;)
