Well, I had so much to do that I asked for the rest of today off rather than going in in the afternoon, and since then I have been doing some stuff around the house in preparation for my (first) move on Saturday, such as the laundry, and generally trying to relax because I'm just rather tired and sick of always having stuff I'm supposed to do. Anyway, I thought it'd be a good opportunity to do an update.

It's been a busy weekend for gaming. First on Friday night was the first Buffy Post-Apocalyptic LARP. I went in feeling horribly unprepared, and scolding myself for the decision to LARP a VERY attractive character in my current state (I'm not terribly happy about my weight at the moment, sigh). I also just kind of wasn't in the mood to LARP incredibly perky for hours. ;) That said, I had a lot of fun. I was able to get my act together well enough to pull things together, and after a few false attempts came up with the perfect explanation for the endless peppiness - given the choice between being endlessly peppy and being depressed because your entire family had been murdered by demons, what would YOU do? :) I had a lot of fun over all, being disturbed by the demons in attendence, curious about magic (damn evil library bastards) and generally freaking people out by being post-apocalyptic high school students. Go Panthers! I need to buy some purple clothing. :)

Concordia was great. I went in a bit nervous - I felt underprepared - I knew my own goals, but I had such brief glimpses of what everyone else was up to; I finished the Cross Report II about five minutes before game start, I was still reading it during the intro announcements. I got a lot of compliments on my costume, especially by the random people who seemed to be wandering the union in large numbers, which made me happy, since I only finished the damn thing at 5 PM on Saturday, I hate cutting it so close! I wasn't even able to do the under skirt, grr. Anyway, the game was awesome. I had a small faction - just myself and [livejournal.com profile] gilded_ygdrasil - but we worked very well together. Not only did we accomplish our two primary goals - be named a kingdom and save our child from being seized by the Bes Din Grand High Poobah - we also, I think, managed to impress some folk, which made me happy. Everyone was totally amazing, I was so impressed by how well IC people were. It really made it a great game. I'm particularly grateful to the other Gwydion, for lots of totally spiffy scenes, to Meilge, for an excellent jail cell conversation, to the President of Grass, and to the people of Northern Ice, particular Lady Frost, with whom I think I had my favorite scene of the game, it was totally sweet. :) I'm sure I missed folk - everyone was so awesome! - and I had a great time thanks to all of you. :) I only wished that some of the things that myself and those I'd spoken with on Saturday could have happened - a lot got derailed with the arrival of High King David evil fomori cold iron poisoned had his seelie side ripped from him, grr. :)

Things have been going fairly well at the internship, though the whole thing has been a bit less focused than I would have liked. I suspect that that is because my advisor hasn't the time to really work out what to do with me - he's really busy all the time. Anyway, I'd write more about this, but I've had to keep a journal, so I don't really feel like writing more on this topic. :)

Here, I thought I had so much to say, but I can't think of much else. I've had fun with various dancing of sorts, learning to Tango and going to Contra; I've enjoyed lots of games and the like, I've spent lots of good hang out time, and generally things have been spiffy. :)

I'm planning to go to dinner tonight at Buccheto's or whatever it's called at about 9:30; if anyone is interested in joining me, feel free to get in touch; if someone would be interested in a late dinner but doesn't want to go there, again, lemme know and I'd be willing to change I think. :)

Tally: 139 miles.

Edit: Oh yeah, and this exhibit I'm working on is in the New York Times! :)

Hey, I'm game for hanging out over there. I don't have a phone right now though I'm online at all times so I'll just check back in here periodically for the plan.

You can find a panthers shirt at Goodwill before the next game, I bet. And I might even have some props you can borrow.(If I can find them...)

Unfortunately, I have the bad feeling I won't have time to go to Goodwill between now and next game...I'll figure something out. If you spot one, I'll pay you back. :) And it's the one by Best Buy.

'Kay. We would have stopped by earlier, after going to borders, but I've been having a horrible back-ache and had to go slather myself in icy-hot. I think it may have dulled your dining pleasure. :p

Nice Times article! That is so cool. Remind me to come see the exhibit when it's all set and before the other games exhibit goes away.

I was just gonna mention Scott Kim, and then I saw this in that article:

"Scott Kim, who writes a puzzle column for Discover magazine, said this was the first time a major collection of puzzles would be available in an academic setting."

Scott Kim spent some time in Bloomington at the end of the semester and gave a lecture on ambigram design. His Discover column is really great and reminded me of the puzzles exhibit. I loved this thing he said... I wasn't sure what his main job was, so I asked him "so what do you do exactly?" and he simply said "I'm a puzzle-maker." I liked how serious he was -- it sounded like he had just said "I'm a nuclear physicist" or something. Anyway, I think that'll help me take the puzzles exhibit more seriously than I might otherwise.
