I made it!!

It's finally August 14th! hahahahaha!
Anyway, everyone's posted lots I want to read, but I haven't the time right now. I must walk the dog, and then do my damnedest to unpack everything I own today, because I don't want to waste other time doing so.
I had a really spiffy Gencon this year. Once again, following in my rapidly-becoming-normal habit, I didn't play a single game (though I demoed a whole lot of stuff while I was on a "quest" to fill out some punch cards that I could use to enter a raffle-type contest.) Instead, I:
-wandered the dealer's room on Thursday.
-wandered the dealer's room on Friday.
-wandered the dealer's room on Saturday.
-wandered the dealer's room on Sunday.
-ate at the Ram like 6 times, with all manner of people. I love Kobe Beef.
-hung out with friends from near and far on all evenings.
-bought a really, really awesome (read: expensive) leather coat which is being custom made for me and that will look like this, hopefully.
-bought some art, including two small original watercolors by the goddess, Stephanie Law.
-painted a mini, and got told by those sitting next to me on either side that I had natural talent and should keep at it - they couldn't believe it was only my 6th one ever. (I'm overly proud of this, I know...)
-worked on some puzzles, found them far to difficult to tackle alone this year.
-had a great time!!
It's interesting to me trying to explain to people that I don't go to Gencon to game. I go just to be surrounded by geeks, to spend time with my friends, to spend some money - or not spend some money, as the case may be, I only spent any real amont on Thursday, and none at all on Sunday - and to be awash in geek culture. There's something so awesome about just being around so many people with whom I share interest. Thanks to all those I hung out with - it's far too many to list (and many don't have LJ's and such) but to a person it was great, and I had lots of fun in large measure thanks to all of you. :)
I think that's Gencon '06, signing off, though I may think of other little stuff throughout.
Anyway, I've finally got some freedom. Today, I unpack and do some grocery shopping, restart my diet, and go dance if I have the time. Tomorrow, I catch up on work. Wednesday, I'm not sure yet. Thursday, I go back to the internship (yeah, I know) and finish up my "portfolio" (make a few more boxes that I'll keep). Friday, Buffy LARP, don't know what else...etc. It's still a busy week, but it's much less busy than in the past. It'll be awesome. :)

Date: 2006-08-14 07:58 pm (UTC)I think I know what you mean regarding the "not going to game". (Especially going to promote a booth that didn't exactly have to do with gaming, either. (; ) It was really neat to just sort of sit back and watch it all happen.

Date: 2006-08-14 10:01 pm (UTC)That's awesome about the minis, too.
Glad that you had fun. The social exhaustion from the Arkansas trip kept my sister and I from going, but from all accounts it was pretty sweet...
(Ah, the joys and the financial perils of the dealer's room!) ;)
