Of course, this isn't everything! Plenty of stuff seems to appear for one day that isn't on the general programs, such as the orchestra I know is playing on Sept. 13 only because I saw it on the sign outside the theater...and of course, there's the local stuff like the musical that saracariad's been working on - I'd add that info if I knew where to find it...


Brown County Playhouse: Curtain is 8 PM. Tickets are $12 for people under 25, $20 for those older (up to seniors).

Ruth N. Halls Theatre and Wells-Metz Theatre: Curtain is 7:30 PM. Tickets are $17 for musicals (Urinetown and Nine); $15 for plays ($14 and $13 respectively for students on Mon. - Thurs. nights). Students can get tickets for $10 if they buy them same day. Balcony tickets at Wells-Metz are $10.

Prices of the IU Auditorium stuff vary pretty widely, as do starting times (which are generally 8PM)

So I'd love to hear what other theater going types might be interested in attending...it's more fun to go with folk than alone, and it'd be good to pin down some of the dates nice and early so that we all don't make other plans. (I'm in that stage of the semester where I start planning out when I'm going to be doing my work and such, can you tell? :) )

Are you serious that Phantom is coming? I've seen it twice, but despite the popularity/hype/movie/etc., I'm excited since there's some goregeous music tucked away in that show (some of the incidental stuff between the popular tunes is, generally, where Lloyd Webber rocks the most, and Phantom has some really nice little surprises for a careful listener, IMHO.. sadly, in recent productions he cut out a 4-against-3 tuplet between Raoul and Christine that was my very favorite moment).

And I'm excited about plenty of the others too, especially if other people are. In particular, Nutcracker, Urinetown, Hansel and Gretel. But that's a great list, and I'm up for most anything. But there is little that would stand in my way of seeing stuff on my list above.

I may have to post an mp3 or two from Nine, Aida, and Manon later...

I'm assuming you mean Don Giovanni, not Don Juan...?

Anyway, I was surprised to see Phantom on there also...I'd be willing to see Aida (which I've never seen), whereas I'd be a bit reluctant to see Producers and Phantom, both of which I've seen before and neither of which I was all that impressed with. Oh those, Phantom interests me the least (you know my views on this)...I could be convinced, depending on how much it cost - if it's more than about $20, though, I rather save my $$$ when it comes to those two. :) We can talk more in person though, tonight or tomorrow night...

Actually, it's pretty fun- it's sort of a halloween tradition in Bloomington. I used to go with my mom in highschool.

Don Giovanni is a great starter opera (and *is* about Don Juan, as it happens). Manon... not so much. Madama Butterfly has the most *incredible* sets, but is depressing as Hell. Cinderella is fun. So is Hansel and Gretel, though often full of kiddies, since their friends are in it playing the choir of angels.

Weirdly, despite my love of opera, I've never seen Aida. The music is supposed to be fabulous.

I will see any opera. Also the Cirque, 12th Night, or Nutcracker.

Not really a musical fan, though.

I haven't seen the actual Aida opera either.... note that the Aida this season is the one by Elton John & Tim Rice.. slightly different than Verdi! But despite some issues I have with the show, I still like it overall. Tim Rice is good at writing angsty unrequited/forbidden love lyrics.

I was hoping with Phantom + the Mozart we'd sort of have two Don Juan shows this season. But anyway I've never seen Don Giovanni so I'm curious.
