The Weekend

Well, first...
Last Call! Dinner with my mom and I! If you're not parent shy! At Longhorn Steakhouse! 8PM! Call me for a ride! Or someone else, if you'd prefer! 812-327-5880. :)
On Saturday, we woke up bright and early, got breakfast at the Runcible, then headed over to the Wiley House for their fall festival thing. It was really nice. My step teacher was there playing flute in the band they had, and a fairly knowledgeable lady gave us and a few other people a tour. It's one of the cultural things I've been meaning to visit for a while, so it was nice to get the chance. The tour was surprisingly interesting, though I was sort of amazed at how long it could take to go through so small a house. I want to see the garden there in the summer, though, cause it was sort of...bedraggled right now.
After that, we headed over to the Third Street park to get some free Lotus. We liked it enough that we made our decision to head over to Lotus in the evening to. We left the park and went home to take a bit of a break before going to La Dulce Vita for dinner.
Lotus was totally awesome. Mom had heard of Golem and like Klezmer a lot, so that was our first stop. They were really awesome but no one was dancing, which made me very sad. I danced anyway for a while, but it was tough, the atmosphere was surprisingly refressive, like I was getting, "what a weirdo" vibes off the other members of the audience, even those who were sort of bopping along to the music. If
fallenrose hadn't shown up and started dancing with me, I probably would have stopped, having managed to resist the banality for almost 45 minutes...After a bunch of klezmer, we went over to hear Swap, which was one of the ones I'd really wanted to hear...they were really awesome, and they had a band member who acted just like
josef_grey, which made me laugh.
Jonie needed care, so after Swap we went back to Fenbrook Lane, took a bit of a break, cared for the pup, and tried to decide if we were too tired to go back to Lotus. After much debate, we decided to go back on the condition I could find a parking spot closer than 2nd street. We succeeded, finding one seconds from the Methodist Church, the venue where the next stuff we wanted to see was - and saw the Tuvan throat singers (I missed the band name) who were totally amazing and by far the most pleasant surprise of the night, since we hadn't even come to see them, but Fingal, who was on next, and was also excellent. All in all, it was much fun and totally cool.
Woke up, grabbed
buzzermccain and went for breakfast. While there, we decided to go out to Musgrove Orchard and pick apples. As it turns out, you can't pick apples at Musgrove Orchard. But they had lots of nice gourds and apples and cider and stuff, and we picked up all kinds of goodies, like homemade apple butter and fresh clover honey, you know, yummy stuff. I set up a nice fall thing on the kitchen table with cute gourds that make me laugh, and I got two really nice pumpkins suitable for carving, decoration, etc.
After that, we headed over to Oliver Winery, because the two are fairly close together, and looked at their beautiful-even-in-the-fall gardens. We decided to hang out and try some wine, but there were a zillion people there, so instead of doing a wine tasting we each bought a glass of what we were most interested in (I had the hard cider), a baguette and some cheese and sat and enjoyed the fall sun. It was pretty nice. We headed back to town, made a cameo at Aberrant to drop off
buzzermccain and to allow me to pick up my secret Santa. We relaxed for a bit after that, got some dinner, then headed back to the hotel. We had planned to watch some movies, but we discovered that the "pay per view" movies are TEN DOLLARS!!! GAH!! We decided it wasn't worth it, and watched adult swim instead. Stupid Venture Brothers To Be Continued BS! At least I got to see some second season VB and Robot Chicken, though...
saracariad and I don't have cable, so I'm way behind, waiting for DVD's to come out so I can catch up...and we played Scrabble. :)
Anyway, I'm off. Today we're going to do some stuff around campus, before the weather goes sour later in the week...I have to find some time to write my paper, though, due Wednesday...urgh...
