Well, it won't be final until tomorrow (at least, that's when I'll go to the SLIS office and try to get it all straightened out) but I've made up my mind. I'm going to drop the history degree. Thanks so much for your advice, guys, it really made me think it through and consider stuff! :)

I also think that I am going to apply for my next set of school this semester (to start my next set of schooling next September), though I haven't decided 100% on that yet. I just...I like what I'm doing now, and I want to get going on getting better at it and building a career doing the conservation and the bookbinding. I'm a bit impatient, I guess. ;)

Wow -- so decisive! congrats on deciding, although it's sad that you'll presumably leave B-town earlier :( It is nice when you figure out what you want to do, though -- that's how I felt about starting grad school here.

Well, I talked it over with the relevant people directly involved, got some nice advice from friends, and spoke to some co-workers with some knowledge of the field. Combining that with my own instincts and feelings, and, well, I can always get a history masters later if I feel like it. Right now, I really don't feel like it.

A small part of my brain is freaking out about how soon that will mean I'm leaving, though. :( I like it here...

Yoiks!

Well, congratulations on your decision. What's the plan for the next set of schooling? Where might that end up being?

Well, the next set of schooling is a post all it's own. The quick synoposis is, I'm going to go to school to gain some training in conservation and/or bookbinding. This is not something I can really learn in Bloomington. There are a few different choices of location, including:
Iowa
Austen, TX
Oregon
Boston
Alabama
...er, those are the ones I remember off hand. My first choice is the one in Boston.

Well, I know a fair number of folks in Boston, including at least two librarians, so I could probably get you in touch with some folks up there.

For what it's worth, there's also quite a gaming scene in that area.

Austen is also cool, though I know fewer people there than I used to.

Good luck, in any event. That you'll be leaving that soon does, indeed, make me sad, but them's the breaks, I guess. :)

I've still got 10 months. ;) And I'll hang out longer if I don't get into any of the programs I apply too....
I definitely appreciate the help in meeting folk, if I end up in those places... :)

I don't think that was a bad call- sorry I did not get a response written to your query earlier.

i'm glad you came to a decision and that it is one that you are happy with. now you just have to let me know where you are planning on going so i have a notion of where to track you down.

Well, I might end up close to New York...or farther away. As I told [livejournal.com profile] kniedzw, there are a few places I'm looking at, and I'll just have to figure out if I'm applying to all of them, all that jazz. I'll post something about that in a few days, once I have some more time. Or sooner, depending on how long it takes me to do all the other things I need to do. ;)

blargh...how do you make life-changing decisions without waiting more than 18 hours for my input? :P

Go to Boston...it'll give me an excuse to visit Boston *huggles*

lol....I could still be convinced otherwise, if you want....anyway, I've been thinking about it for about a week...
And believe me, Boston is my first choice. The program looks soooooooooo cool. ;)

Boston is ruttin' cool. As long as you watch out for the traffic & mobsters in the Big dig and such. I guess I'll just have to get hired by MIT after I graduate, *sigh*, if I want to come hang out. I guess that wouldn't be so bad :)
