I knew going in that today was going to suck no matter what I did. However, really, the ways in which it sucked the most were in no way my fault. For what it's worth, though, I've arrived in New York safe and sound, if a bit the worse for wear.
We left Bloomington at 4:40. I'd been up since 2:30 due to unfortunate circumstances; my stomach was starting to bother me by 3; I was pretty sure I had food poisoning by about the time we left. Horrible cramps, various unpleasant fluids, etc. Between the three of us in the car, we'd managed to get less than 4 hours of sleep combined. We got to Cincinatti at 7:15 or so despite my having stop 4 times; I threw up three times before we got there. Still,
schenker28 made his flight no problem, which was good. :)
I managed to drive until about 10 (5 1/2 hours) despite frequent needs to stop and a lot of pain; finally, I had to acknowledge that I should step aside.
saracariad took over the driving while I curled up into a sad, pained ball in the back seat and tried not to make us stop too much; I managed to sneak about an hour of sleep, too - a miracle, really, I can't really sleep in cars.
At noon I was forced to acknowledge that there was no way in fuck all I was going to be able to go to Boston tomorrow, and my vacation is otherwise locked up, so I had to cancel visiting the school until the indefinite future; I'll probably fly out to Boston for a day or two and try to get a look around some time next semester before the application is due on April 1st. I'm not sure I'll be up for going to Binghamton, either, even though the stomach has vaguely settled down, I have severe muscle aches and generally feel like crap. I'm hoping to convince
mistress_sin and the others to come down to NYC, thus sparing me the additional 7+ hours of driving it'll take for me to go upstate.
saracariad drove us through all the way to D.C. while I attempted to determine if I had the capacity to finish the drive. We arrived in D.C. at 5; even with all the stops it took us 12 1/2 hours, not that much more than I thought it would. After a lot of deliberation (with the help of
saracariad and
sapphohestia) I decided that I was gonna try for it cause really getting home and getting pampered a bit by a mom was well earned after the day I'd had.
I left D.C. at 6 and arrived in NYC almost exactly 4 hours later; too me three tries to find a garage with room, but whatever, and I meandered home to a nice warm house and some liquid. (I've had half a bag of goldfish and 4 bottles of water today, and that's it).
In total, I was on the road from 4:40 AM to until 10 AM with only a single hour break and no stops for food. We stopped about 10 times, and though the cramps faded, thank god, around 3 in the afternoon, the muscle aches set in something fierce (and are still there). In all, I did about 9 1/2 hours of the driving.
Basically, I'm tired and whiny. I just needed to rant about how much it sucks to be in a car for 16 and a half hours when one has food poisoning...
In other news, the game yesterday was awesome and totally worth the agony. :) I'll post more tomorrow. :) And check my e-mail. And stuff. But for now, I'm going the fuck to sleep.

Date: 2006-12-20 01:04 am (UTC)My weirdest experience with it was at Caltech, when I pigged out and ate 9 food service pancakes. I viewed subsequent throwing up as just punishment, but was then introduced to the concept of stomach flu, and the fact that lots of other people were upchucking as well without the help of my overindulgence.

Date: 2006-12-19 04:14 am (UTC)I think y'all should point out to Chili's that multiple people got food poisioning last night. And saracariad got sick there a month ago or so.... so they're on my list.

Date: 2006-12-19 04:51 am (UTC)...and I realize now that I completely and utterly failed to draw you a map of how you should tour Boston. I fail. When you decide to head up there finally, make sure to remind me and bug me so that I actually write something up for you.
Hope you feel better soon.

Date: 2006-12-19 03:57 pm (UTC)I realized sometime yesterday that I in fact had no map, but seeing as how this was right around the same time I realized I wasn't going to Boston, I didn't worry about it all that much. :)

Lemme know when you're around to see ya, and I will appear, like the mysterious wind...or the bad trade...or what have you :)
