Why My Day Sucked (AKA a gratuitous attempt at sympathy. ;) )

I knew going in that today was going to suck no matter what I did. However, really, the ways in which it sucked the most were in no way my fault. For what it's worth, though, I've arrived in New York safe and sound, if a bit the worse for wear.

We left Bloomington at 4:40. I'd been up since 2:30 due to unfortunate circumstances; my stomach was starting to bother me by 3; I was pretty sure I had food poisoning by about the time we left. Horrible cramps, various unpleasant fluids, etc. Between the three of us in the car, we'd managed to get less than 4 hours of sleep combined. We got to Cincinatti at 7:15 or so despite my having stop 4 times; I threw up three times before we got there. Still, [livejournal.com profile] schenker28 made his flight no problem, which was good. :)

I managed to drive until about 10 (5 1/2 hours) despite frequent needs to stop and a lot of pain; finally, I had to acknowledge that I should step aside. [livejournal.com profile] saracariad took over the driving while I curled up into a sad, pained ball in the back seat and tried not to make us stop too much; I managed to sneak about an hour of sleep, too - a miracle, really, I can't really sleep in cars.

At noon I was forced to acknowledge that there was no way in fuck all I was going to be able to go to Boston tomorrow, and my vacation is otherwise locked up, so I had to cancel visiting the school until the indefinite future; I'll probably fly out to Boston for a day or two and try to get a look around some time next semester before the application is due on April 1st. I'm not sure I'll be up for going to Binghamton, either, even though the stomach has vaguely settled down, I have severe muscle aches and generally feel like crap. I'm hoping to convince [livejournal.com profile] mistress_sin and the others to come down to NYC, thus sparing me the additional 7+ hours of driving it'll take for me to go upstate.

[livejournal.com profile] saracariad drove us through all the way to D.C. while I attempted to determine if I had the capacity to finish the drive. We arrived in D.C. at 5; even with all the stops it took us 12 1/2 hours, not that much more than I thought it would. After a lot of deliberation (with the help of [livejournal.com profile] saracariad and [livejournal.com profile] sapphohestia) I decided that I was gonna try for it cause really getting home and getting pampered a bit by a mom was well earned after the day I'd had.

I left D.C. at 6 and arrived in NYC almost exactly 4 hours later; too me three tries to find a garage with room, but whatever, and I meandered home to a nice warm house and some liquid. (I've had half a bag of goldfish and 4 bottles of water today, and that's it).

In total, I was on the road from 4:40 AM to until 10 AM with only a single hour break and no stops for food. We stopped about 10 times, and though the cramps faded, thank god, around 3 in the afternoon, the muscle aches set in something fierce (and are still there). In all, I did about 9 1/2 hours of the driving.

Basically, I'm tired and whiny. I just needed to rant about how much it sucks to be in a car for 16 and a half hours when one has food poisoning...

In other news, the game yesterday was awesome and totally worth the agony. :) I'll post more tomorrow. :) And check my e-mail. And stuff. But for now, I'm going the fuck to sleep.

I think it could be stomach flu...or Chili's. I threw up in the middle of last night, had a fever and muscle aches that lasted until 1. But I seem largely over it this evening.

Glad you're safe!

What is going on with people today? It's like everyone I know imploded. Sheesh.

Hope you're really and truly on the mend.

I, too, had problems today, though much lesser ones than others it seems, just a minor bit of diarrhea around 11am. I had a medium burger (rather pink, actually) and lots of chips and salsa.

My burger was also fairly pink. I was happy about it at the time... Though I know [livejournal.com profile] morbon_tg also got sick, and he didn't have Chili's at all... :)

I feel alot better. On the other hand I've been a bit ill since Saturday; I'm really hoping I'm not the one who's poisoned everyone else. :/

[identity profile] unforth.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The achy-ness I had does seem to suggest that it might have been a minor flu thing rather than anything else. I've never had food poisoning, so I didn't realize that aches aren't really a symptom of that. Or so says my mom...

[identity profile] nekomata.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I've had food poisoning twice, so I really think this was a minor flu. I'm just glad I got my flu vaccine, I don't want to be ny sicker than that. :/

I had no point for reference (though now I realize that I might, see, there was this one time that I had an undefined really bad illness that I think might have been food poisoning)...but I'm tending to agree with ya from what I know now.

and that is the cutest icon EVAR.

Thanks! :)

ditto on that.
i think the midwest restraunts got some seriously bad food or something.

[identity profile] nekomata.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I actually think I had a flu thing, to be fair. I'd had general nausea and achiness since Saturday night and faught throwing up for most of the Changeling game. I just offered Chili's as an alternate explanation, it's made me sick before.

"Stomach flu" isn't actually flu, but some whole other virus family (norovirus). Supposed to spread through food or direct contact -- surprisingly well, I guess -- not through the air. And yeah, fast acting for most people.

My weirdest experience with it was at Caltech, when I pigged out and ate 9 food service pancakes. I viewed subsequent throwing up as just punishment, but was then introduced to the concept of stomach flu, and the fact that lots of other people were upchucking as well without the help of my overindulgence.

Its not food poisoning. There is a stomache flu hitting right now.

I made my disbelief save. I see through your farce.

It's clearly a plot by the Skeksis to drain our vital essences!

I see through! I understand!

[identity profile] coyotewatches.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn!!!

We must destroy him for he knows too much!!!

*makes weird skeksis hmmmmmmmm noise*

[identity profile] danielmc.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
it is one quick and contagious flu then.
nasty

and just in time for the holidays!

Hopefully, the lack of social events over the week will keep it from spreading any further...
