Home, Sweet Home!!

I'm back, safe and sound. :) It's nice to be home.
Christmas was nice, generally speaking. Kirsten's family came to visit, and I got to know them better than the few hours that I saw them on Thanksgiving. Her brother was very quiet, so I didn't get to know him, which was a pity cause he's supposedly a huge geek. He talked to my brother a lot, but I couldn't seem to engage him. It was frustrating. But otherwise, stuff went well. On Christmas day, we drove out to my dad's and did a Christmas "thing" that was very nice; Paula cooked a bunch (my step mother) and it was tasty.
The next day, Kirsten's family was leaving, so we went to the Met and looked at art and stuff. We all split up; I went and looked at the European masters because, despite living less than a mile from the Met for my entire life, I've hardly ever been there and haven't seen their European collection since I was a kid. Isn't that stupid? Well, it was worth it, they have some beautiful stuff. Then, that afternoon, the family and folks left, and I met up with
ultimabaka and
bakanekotoo and we went and got dinner, hung out, played some Guitar Hero at their place, and generally caught up.
The 27th was another busy day; in the morning, we did our family Christmas. I got the copy of Guitar Hero I've been raving about, the subscription to Netflix, a few other odds and ends I'd asked for, and, much to my glee, the requested iPod. It's 80 gigs, video capable, and very shiny. I'm excited; I can't wait to start playing with it, except that I have to wait until tonight, grumblegrumble. Then, I packed everything up, drove up to Binghamton. I got dinner with
mistress_sin,
xaniquen, and Kev. Silly
eviltophat went home, so I didn't get to see him. Jerk. Then the other two had previous plans, so
xaniquen and I hung out.
I woke up bright and early yesterday morning, got breakfast with
xaniquen, and then drove back. I made it from IHOP in Binghamton to Cracker Barrel in Bloomington in 11 and 1/2 hours, despite a half hour stop in Columbus to see the brother and pick up the computer I've been awaiting so eagerly, and despite three pit stops for gas. So basically, I made the trip in less than 11 hours. This is mind blowing; I can't believe I did it so fast! It probably has something to do with the fact that I was going 80 mph as much as possible...thank god I didn't get pulled over! :)
Generally, it was a nice vacation, though I'm very happy to be home. It's particularly strange touching base with my friends; I hadn't seen
ultimabaka and
bakanekotoo since May;
mistress_sin since March, and
xaniquen since last December...and yet, in all three instances, it felt so natural to just be chatting again. This is really the first year that I've had this sort of experience, so I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I think that it was really nice; and it makes for a strange reminder of how much you miss these kinds of friends when they are not around (at this point, I've known the baka's for 10 1/2 and 6 1/2 years respectively, sin for 6 1/2 years, and xaniquen for 6...) It's strange, too, cause I knew that I missed them, but it feels like I miss them more now. :( I guess I just gotta get used to it; it'll happen even more when I move from Bloomington...
I woke up early today, to go to work, and then said fuck it and went back to bed, woke up two hours later and then went into work. Thank god for flexible scheduling/coming in on days I'm not technically scheduled for so it's not actually a big deal if I'm a flake. I didn't get back until 11 PM last night, and then I unloaded my car, ate my last bit of diet rebellion (a donut from Cresent) and then collapsed into bed, thankful to be in something not moving. :) Mom used the excuse of my having the car to send me home with all manner of things, plus I got a new CPU and a big ass laser printer for HEC work stuff, plus my Birthday present from mom was a Kitchen Aid, so a lot of the stuff I had to cart into the house was big and annoyingly heavy; I left it all on the landing and have been moving it up the stairs over the course of today. I cut out of work after a few hours to run some errands (like, groceries were needed...) and then I hooked up the computer...which I am using to write this post!! OMG it's so nice to have an actual fucking computer again! With a real monitor! That isn't 1028 x 764! And that runs fast! I'm in loooove. :) Now I just have to transfer the stuff I need over from the other computer, which will be mildly irritating but hopefully not more than that...
As for the rest of the evening, I'm driving
gilded_ygdrasil to the Greyhound in Indy, and then heading back to Bloomington and hoping to god I can avoid any more long trips for at least a week; I have some baking I need to do for tomorrow (scones for tea!) and then I want to play Guitar Hero, watch Ice Age or Superman (my first netflix!) and I have to do some work for HEC.
Why is life always busy?
That ended up longer than anticipated. Ah well. See folks at stuff tomorrow! :)
